i've got a few dystopian novels in my library (i think i even tagged them that way) but i haven't read a lot of them yet. the handmaid's tale has been recommended to me a few times. i'm not sure whether it's dystopian or not but there's a le guin book i've kind of wanted to check out too which i think is probably "feministy" as well called (IIRC) the left hand of darkness. i believe its about a world where people switch back and forth between male and female, spending half their time as one sex and half as the other. or something.
and terry pratchett! he's one of my favorite authors. all his stuff is suitable for any age, but he's got a few (The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents as well as the Tiffany Aching series) that are specifically aimed at young adults or kids. and they're great.
oh, another really great young-adult or kid's book is Un Lun Dun by China Mieville. He's one of my favorite authors, but all his other books are very much NOT for kids. Un Lun Dun is his only kids book so far, but it's really really good. btw, i'm sure you don't have much time for leisure reading with the classes and work and everything, but if you ever want to borrow anything from me, just let me know.
Hi new LibraryFriend!
If you want to borrow my scanner, I can bring it to class on monday. It's handy if you're going to try to add a ton of books all at once. And I can't imagine I'll ever bee adding hundreds at a time ever again... so it's not so crucial for me these days.
