About meI am an ex-Librarian, who worked in a variety of positions, including cataloguing Rare Books and Photographic Collections. I have worked amalgamating libraries, and as a Special Librarian, which involved all aspects of the daily routine work involved in running a Library - no specializations there, as well as research and web design to name just a couple of my duties, ending my career in Collection Management.

Since retiring from the workforce, to become a full time carer for my disabled husband, I have taken to completing...if that is at all possible, my family history, begun by my mother 40 years ago. My genealogical research is as much about general and local history as it is about family history.

I am also writing histories of individual family members, which I hope one day, will be coherent enough to become a fully fledged, written family history.

With the large collection of documents and photographs inherited on my my Mother's death, I have also become interested in preservation and conservation of these, as well as many special artifacts or family heirlooms; from old pieces of carnival glass and Carlton Ware (pottery) that belonged to my Great Grandmother, to the never used aprons and tea-towels, that would have been given to, or made by, my mother for her "Glory Box"

This brings me to the organisation that goes into all this reseach, the filing, archiving, scanning, labelling and storing of all the things that make a history complete; It doesn't feel like I have retired at all!

About my libraryHaving recently moved to a smaller home, my husband (a Science and History buff) and I have had to downsize our collection quite heavily, but for every two books we discard (to a good home!) another appears, so now our 4500+ book collection is down to around 3500!

Before we moved to this new home, every book was catalogued, and had its own special place. I am begining anew with LibraryThing, starting with my Family History collection. I'm not about to attempt to catalogue my husbands books, and it will take me some time to add all of my own collections!
