I need to start going to the library on a regular scheduled basis, but I've been very anxious about visiting that general area, lame yes but true none the less. When you go again, can I tag along?
Hi Louanne, thanks for the kind words about my review. I hope you enjoy the Boyden books when you get to them, Boyden writes so beautifully. I'd love to hear your thoughts once you've read them!
Hi Louanne, I've seen you on the threads so I thought I'd I'd check out your profile. We've got a lot of the same books and apparently we have Niagara Falls in common too. Happy reading!
Thyanks for the suggestion, I have been making a list of books that I will bring up at the first meeting. We will suggest books then we do a vote on the books that we want to read and that is how we get our reading list for the year. I will let you know what is on the list next week, I can't wait!!! Have you read The Flying Troutmans?
Heidi
Hello, I was just making a list of books to suggest for book club, let me know what you think about Sweetness in the Belly, I won't read it. If you think that it is a good book, I will suggest it. I looked it up and it sounds good. I don't like to re-read books so I will hold off to read it. Ley me know if you have any more suggestions about books. When I have the list from book club of the books that we are going to read I will put the list on here, maybe give you some ideas for your book club.
Heidi
Hi, Louanne! Well, I've had 30+ years of buying children's books, but also I'm a private teacher/tutor so was able to buy books at a discount and count them as a business expense! :-) Yeah, you gotta use the library; kids go through them so fast, it's too expensive to buy. It's nice to have a few favorites though, isn't it? I can't wait to read some of sons' favorites to their kids--not that that is going to happen any time soon! Take care, and happy reading! B.

P.S. I know what you mean about reading levels. Just because your daughter can read them doesn't mean she should. Has she read My Father's Dragon? That's the first title in a series of three that is a popular read-aloud for kids her age.
I'm in Thornhill, north of the city. The storm was close but we just got tons of rain, and wicked thunder and lightening. And an absolutely beautiful rainbow afterward. A full arc, gorgeous! Crazy weather is right. What a summer! We have a bunch of books in common. It's cool when you see someone else reading the same stuff as you, time and time again. you have great taste.
The movie was great, but read the book first to really understand the movie. Thanks for the list! I really love all these great chats on the threads, the tbr list keeps getting longer.
Heidi
Hi, I am going to see the movie tonight, will let you know about it. You have to read the book, good one for the winter! So how is your book club going? I can't wait until mine starts back up, in Sept. Got any suggestions for books to recommend to read? Thanks
Heidi
Hi, I really hope that you enjoy it as I did. I think that I might suggest it for book club. I just started The Namesake. Hope that you and your family have a wonderful holiday and that the weather is nice.
Heidi
Hi! Don't you know as soon as I expressed an interest in it, she picks it up and begins to read! It was sitting there for weeks, it's okay though, Life of Pi is getting really intense! I'm on the lifeboat now, and it's honestly got me pretty shaken. I saw the Harry Potter movie last night and decided I'd really like to read those books next before the final movie comes out and everyone spoils it for me. What are you reading now?

Post Script, we should make a family blog called The Family That Reads, and have all our relatives share our books! Imagine THAT world map!
Hi
Thanks for your kind comments.
I see you've recently read The Secret River, like Kate Grenville, some of my ancestors were convicts and settled on the Hawkesbury River. I thought she told a wonderful tale.
I also thought The Cellist of Sarajevo was a very good read.

Hope you keep enjoying Librarything.

Cheers
kim
:-)
I loved Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, hope that you like it also. I couldn't put it down, I wanted to finish it. I want to read her book Peony, it sounds good also. Have you read anything else by her? I am going to the library to get Apologize, Apologize by Elizabeth Kelly and The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri, that will be the next books I will read. I try and watch the Tour de France, my parents watch all of it. I like watching tennis, the grand slams. Have a great night watching the tour!!
Hi! Just got Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, going to start it now. Hope that you are enjoying your summer so far :)
Heidi
wow, it has been a little while, Hello! I hae had some company down so I been a little busy. What are you reading now? Me, I am still reading Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, but hopefully finish soon. I will see at the library if they have Snowflower and the Sectret Fan in and get that one.
Heidi :)
No problem - I appreciate your interest! I hope I didn't go overboard with the information, mind...
HI, I will get and read Snowflower and the Secret Fan next.
Heidi :)
Doing good, over half way done, been busy also. What are your thoughts on the book so far? Their "new" life is very interseting. Water for Elephants was a bookclub read for me also, I read before we picked it. I don't have bookclub now until Sept.
Have a great day!!
Heidi :)
Hi Louanne! It's a statue of John Betjeman in St Pancras railway station in London. The outside of the building has always been beautiful, but they recently did up the inside too (in preparation for Eurostar services to Paris and Brussels beginning to operate from there). I'm afraid I know nothing of John Betjeman, but apparently he played a part in preventing the building from knocked down, which I'm very glad about, as it's one of my favourites in London! This site has more information about it, including about the poetry at the base of the statue: http://www.martinjennings.com/betjeman.h...
I will start The Secrete River now also, looking forward to reading it.The library didn't have Coventry so I will have to wait. I just bought The Art of Racong in the Rain, have you read it? It sounds like a good read. I really have to stop buying books, like thats going to happen...lol..
Hello I just finished The Outcast by Sadie Jones, great read, really enjoyed it. I will get The Secrete River at the library tomorrow and also I found Hotle at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet there. Enjoy your book!!
Heidi :)
I go on here and find books that others have on their lists and then mine grows and grows. If I find a book at a bookstore and I have never read about it before, I will write it down and the come on here to find out about it.
Louanne

Fall On Your Knees by Ann Marie McDonald is a book you will never forget and can't put down. Anything by Penelope Fitzgerald, my favorite was The Gate of Angels. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides was terrific.

Greetings

My club has eight members. We meet monthly Sept. to June. We have a Christmas party in December where no book is read, but we invite our husbands. Christmas cheer and food and games are the matter of course. We also try to do some author investigation, it can often add incite to the story. We as a group thouroughly enjoyed The Red Tent. We read it a number of years ago, but it was a terrific read, very interesting. I passed it on to my eldest daughter, who is a avid reader and she also enjoyed it.

cheers, Saratuck
Hi Louanne

Sweetness is a compelling read,I enjoyed it from the first page. I have noticed that your bookclub has also read "Late Nights on Air". Did your club enjoy it? We loved it as a group and some of us were lucky enough to attend a lunch with Elizabeth Hay. She read and answered questions and signed her novels. She was very thoughtful in her answers and self-depracating and funny.

Hi Louanne
I have not started Cellist because they didn't have enough copies, so it should be in this week. I am looking foward to reading it. Right now I am reading The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas.
I will be getting The Cellist tomorrow at Bookclub, just finished Magical Thinking bu Augusten Burroughs. It was a good book but I liked Running with Scissors and Dry better. I want to find some of his other books to read.
Heidi
Happy Mother's Day from one Mom to another!
Heidi:)
Hi, well I finished The Guernsey Liuterary in no time and loved it. What a great book to read. Now I have to find another book to read because there is no way that I can go 7 days without reading.
Heidi :)
I finished reading Astonishing Colours and I really enjoyed it. The story had some twists in it that made it interesting. I just started The Guernsey Literary... and I find it very enjoyable to read. My next book will be bookclub book, The Cellist of Sarajevo, have you read it? Hope that you are enjoying your book!
Heidi :)
So is Boys in the Trees worth a buy, the bookstore is having a sale 25% off, it is on paperback. Astonishing Colours is a great read, I am not done yet but I won't give anything away. What happens in the book makes it very interesting to read.
Heidi ;)
I am enjoying Astonishing Splashes of Colour, I hope that you will enjoy Time Traveler's Wife because I think it is one of those book that either you love it or can't follow so you don't. I just picked up The Guernsey Literary and P P P Society, I got tired of waiting for it at the library. It is now in paperback. Have you read it? What are your thoughts?
Heidi :)
I have picked Astonishing Splashes of Colour to read next. I couldn't fine Hotel at the mall, and I forgot to write the info down. I might order it from the local bookstore where I do my bookclub at. What did you start to read?
Heidi :)
Good Dat!
Time Traveler's Wife is a great read, it may be a little confusing but it is all worth it. I cried at the end of the book. They have made a movie of the book, but the book is great. Most people on here that have read the book loved it also so I think that you should give it a try!! I will check out the other books that you have said about.:)
Heidi
Hi
Well I just finished Breaking Dawn, it was ok. I am not too sure what to read now, any suggestions? I was sort of thinking of Mercy Among the Children but not too sure now if it is something that I want to read right now. I am going shopping this weekend, I might look for Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. I have two weeks before my next bookclub meeting which I will get The Cellist of Sarajevo and then only one more meeting before the summer break.
Happy Reading:)
Heidi
Good day!
Yes we have been having some nice weather also but with some crapy weather in between. It is very hard to dress the boys, they want to wear shorts but it is too cold, then it is hot.
I am reading the last book of the Twilight saga, it is pretty good. My fav is still the first book, I don't feel the same way reading the rest of the books like I did while reading the first. Boys in the Trees is on my TBR list. Is it a good read? I think that my next book will be Mercy Among the Children. I have a bookshelf full of books that I want to read, plus I have found some at the library to read.
Enjoy your book
Heidi
Hi
Yes I have read Belong To Mo, it was really good but I have not yet read Love Walked in. I just got it at the used book store so I will get to it soon. I have also read Friday Night Knitters Club but have not read the secong book. What do you think about it?
Heidi
Hi,

Not ignoring your post just haven't checked in for awhile. I just finished reading The Pillars of the Earth and loved it. I will have to put the other book you suggested on my list. Thanks!
Jessica
Hi Louanne, I finished The Glass Castle a few books back and I really enjoyed it very much. I like looking at other libraries to see what others say about a book that I would like to read, it is a great way to find books to read.I know about the kids books but now my oldest(6) does the reading:)
Heidi
Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries, we do share a lot of the same books. I see that you just joined LT this year, me too. I LOVE it! It is a great way to share books with others.
Heidi

Thank you, Louanne. I really appreciate your comments about my review of Guernsey. I've been toying around with starting a letter writing challenge. I just don't know what that would look like.
Thanks Louanne--you just made my day!
