About me Married mom/step mom of 4; daughter 21 and son 17/ Stepsons 21 and 19. DH is a Baltimore City Firefighter. I teach reading interventions in middle school and I am the assistant director of an after school program for at risk teens. I also go to school part time. My plate is full.
I do love music, good dirty jokes, and Baltimore Ravens football. I am slightly addicted to Pogo.com and now obsessed with Scrabulous.com. Who doesn't love Scrabble??

About my library I do tend to read a lot of the young adult fantasy we have in our media center so I can recommend (or not) books to my students.
***I am a true Harry Potter geek and I would like to personally thank J.K. Rowling for making the whole world read..especially my daughter.***
I am very interested in the more "adult" fantasy though and if anyone has any recommendations please drop me a note.

** Whoever was so kind as to recommend Outlander by Diana Gabaldon...I love you. It has become my obsession. Now, if I could just find me a 6'4" Scot in a kilt I can cross something off my bucket list.

Hello, MD, thanks for the welcome and the recommendation. I do believe the series has been touted in the Romance group as well. I'll have a look next time I'm in the bookstore.
As they say up here, cheahs, and remembah, you cahn't get theyah from heyah...
Hi: More than a month ago, you left me a message about the books by Gabaldon, and I really appreciate it. I haven't quite gotten accustomed to coming to Library Thing yet and certainly haven't been checking my messages. I will certainly check out one of her books next time I go to the library. FYI, Rich Square, NC, isn't far from me.

Cat, Hi there ... just say your post on 40-something Library thingers. Just wanted to give you a serious HIGH FIVE on the football thing!!!! Wouldn't it be fantastic if those quarterbacks actually listened to us when we yelled at them!!!!!;)

Take Care!

Thanks for enlightening me about Gerard Butler MDLady. I thought it was him. He does look lovely in that pic. What movie is that from? I fell in 'love' with him after Phantom of the Opera. And loved '300' as well.
I think I will go read Outlander . sounds good.

I have just finished reading Katharine Kerr's Deverry series. Can highly recommend it.. if you like a good long read. 14 books so far i think...I lost count ;0) .Still waiting for the last one to be written. It's celtic so that might appeal to you if you haven't already read it.

My other favourite is Cecilia Dart- Thorntons' Bitterbynde Trilogy. I've seen mixed reviews in here but I loved it. Beautifully crafted characters, an achingly poignant love story and a lots of faeries and other dangerous things. Some great prose that others have described as 'purple'. I loved it! Catch you in the Green Dragon some time!
Hi, I got your message a few weeks ago about the Outlander fans group on Myspace, but wasn't able to find it when I searched for it. Do you have a link to the group?
Hi!

just wanted to say thanks for your not on Gabaldon's series! It was the time -travel that convinced me to get the first one and I've reserved the next one at the library. Maybe I can find some used ones on Amazon... money is a bit short these days (so what's new!)

BTW - I still enjoy the 40 somethings, but have just been lurking around in a quiet mood. It's a fun group in there!

Iris
Cat,

I've just poked my head into the 40 Somethings for the first time in a loooong while, and I saw your posts about Outlander! I bought the unabridged audio book last year (first one) and loved it. Now you've convinced me to get the rest. Her writing is such a nice balance of the things I love to read about. Thanks for reminding me how good it was.

Iris
I've actually just added a section to the wiki with instructions on how to add images to your profile:
http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.p...

Certain HTML codes are allowed, like < b > for bold and < i > for italics (don't put in the spaces). End them with < / b > or < / i >.
I will definitely check out the YouTube thing when I get home tonight!
What is Raising the Griffin like? We seem to have similar tastes in books...
I resisted reading other Highlander time travel romances for a long time, but I finally succumbed and now I love reading them! None can compare to Outlander, but it tides me over while waiting for Book 7. I had no idea this whole romance genre existed! Some aren't great, but some aren't bad either! I have a lot in my LT library if you're interested.
We seem to both love Outlander so much (and it's many wannabes), I thought I'd add you as a friend!
LOL! I thought you knew! I had sent you a message - maybe you didn't get it? I'll have to think about it, but so far it looks good already. I'm still tinkering around with my site, the interface is very complicated there compared to LJ *sigh* I'm off to work now - talk soon!
Thank you for the welcome MD Lady!!
Thanks, yes, that's one of my favorites too - love the line and that part!
No, I don't have an account with My Space, I like LiveJournal better and the way it's set up. It's very easy to manouver there, it's home to me. I'm sure there are probably already scads of Outlander Fan pages over there as it is. It seems like such a huge site to me! Even though Live Journal is large, it's not really.
Thanks, MD. I'm looking forward to finding my way around 40-somethings. I used to live in MD, btw, in the Greenspring Valley (NW of Baltimore; my first novel is set there!). And I LOVE your well-behaved women quote.

Meg
Like my new name?
Thanks for the welcome to 40-Something I'm sure I'll come up with some ideas eventually.

Jacquie
Thanks, Cat. BTW, can I call you something besides MDLady? Is Cat short for ...? I'll probably check the thread again, but really I'm more afraid of losing it and writing exactly what I think. Sometimes saying all you want to say is good, but other times it does nothing. In this case, I'm trying to be cool.
I'll look for you on threads. There are some very interesting folks on here, aren't there?
Nicole
Thanks for your comment :). As for becoming a comedian, well... after my Ph.D. is done, I have no specific plans; so, it's anyone's guess what I end up doing ;)
Thanks for the welcome to 40-Something Library Thingers! I will see what I can think of ... nothing has come to mind just yet ...

Regards
Tim
