Well, I got a letter back from the DOD records department asking for more information because A. they can't find the record or B. the records were destroyed by a tremendous fire in the 70s, but they didn't specify which it was. I'm assuming they wouldn't have sent the letter if the files were destroyed, but of course that would be too logical. I'm going to call up some of my older relatives this weekend and see if they can remember anything. One of the things they asked for was whether he had received any benefits from the VA and his number with them, which after all this time nobody has. I know he received partial disability payments from them because he had some exposure to mustard gas in the trenches. We know he was in the Pioneer infantry, but we don't know which unit. They also want his exact dates of service. We know he was there when the war was over because to his dying day he still talked about how beautiful the German women were. So, we assume appx 1917-18, but I don't know if anything we have will be enough to satisfy them. Thanks for any input.

Finished "The Rome that did not fall" yesterday.
Very impressive, and a good thematic approach, if heavy going.
I'll have to hunt down "Theodosius: the empire at bay"
You don't know of any books on Aetius by any chance, do you?
