About meI am a graduate of UIUC's Library and Information Science program(2007). My research focus in graduate school was in Community Informatics. I have been a strong advocate for programs that focus on the prevention of youth violence and that increase awareness of the impact of bullying in schools.
I'm currently seeking employment as a media specialist/librarian in a K-12 environment. I have demonstrated leadership skills in library management and instruction with a passion for increasing literacy as a critical component of academic success and educating students to be effective users and producers of information.
I believe that school libraries must focus on students as a 21st Century Learners, such that teaching & learning in the library prepares students for success beyond the library.
"I will bring to my school great energy and drive, innovative and collaborative ideas, and a sense of urgency to put in place programs that engage students in the process of learning so that they will be successful in school and over a lifetime." -- Michelle Torrise
About my libraryI have chosen books from my personal library that focus on education, social awareness, and tolerance in families, schools and communities.
Also included are books that I have read, or wish to read, but do not own. These are denoted by the comment "borrowed."
My catalog is designed to collocate books by genre, by subject. To use this catalog as a visual display of grouped works, first sort by tags by clicking on the header of the "tags” column, then select "cover view" from the top left of the library tool bar.
