About meEr...I work for a Federal Law Enforcement Agency in my civilian role; I hold a Reserve commission as a US Army Captain. Served in the Iraq War. Married, two great kids.

About my libraryRather eclectic (or eccentric) reflecting my love of military history, early 20th century thrillers, Lovecraftian Horror, and semi-decent science fiction. I love horror, adventure literature, and anything that allows me to get away from reality. Interesting thing about this project is that I had previously estimated that I owned about 2,000 books. After entering everything I own, I'm only a little over a thousand.

A major portion of my collection is nothing but military history, strategic studies, tactical works, et cetera. One of my more expensive hobbies is to collect tactics textbooks from the early part of this century. I find it fascinating to see how tactics and doctrine have evolved over the past hundred years.

My current reading interests are the pulps--Doc Savage, Operator #5, Fu Manchu, et cetera. great fun, and most are available in quality reprints.

Hello there - I don't have John Master's "The Road Past Mandalay" in my library but I've read it and was equally impressed. It was recommended to me by a British officer who fought in the campaign & he also said that Master's books about British India reflected the reality that he had experienced.
My late dad served with the 209th Combat Engineers in the China-Burma-India theater, October 1943 - August 1945. His unit served under Col. Lewis A. Pick in construction of the Ledo (aka Stilwell, aka Burma) Road. General Stilwell deployed this unit from road-building directly into combat at the Myitkyina Air Strip and for the last three months of siege at the town of Myitkyina. I'm seeking to meet those who may have information about my dad's unit or the Myitkyina battles. Can you help? (I found your userid associated with Field Marshall Viscount Slim's book.)
Hi - in the fantasy genre, did you ever try Glen Cook's 'The Black Company'. Definitely might be your sort of thing.

cheers,

bt
