About me"Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention."
--Sir Francis Bacon

"When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes."
--Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam

"My advice is not to heap together all manner of books indiscriminately and think only of the number and size of the collection. I would make a judicious selection, for it is not necessary to have all the commentaries of the jurists, all the sentences of the theologians, all the quaestiones of the philosophers, and all the sermons of the monks. Indeed, I would discard all such dung, and furnish my library with the right sort of books, consulting with scholars as to my choice."
--Martin Luther

"I cannot live without books."
--Thomas Jefferson

About my libraryI have more residing in California which are not listed here . . . but Rick still beats me by a long shot. And of course, books owned and books read are not equivalents.

I see you got Letters to An American Lady. My first class I ever had with Rod was his C.S. Lewis class. I was still a student at UCI and got permission to audit. I remember him introducing the book. "The book is Letters to An American Lady. The woman should have been shot." He hated the idea of such a silly woman wasting Lewis's time on all the wrong kinds of questions. I haven't read the book to know, but I remember finding this funny. Reminds me of another comment. Reviewing a secondary source called Light on C.S. Lewis, he said, "It should have been titled Dark on C.S. Lewis."
