About meI have always loved to read and spend a lot of my time finding more books to read even when I have a huge TBR pile sitting in front of me. I'm rarely able to read more than one book at the same time (I know there are people who can keep 2-4 books going but I find that I just can't do that) but I'm a fast reader so it doesn't take me long to move on to the next book.
I keep track of my library and the books I have read using the software Bookpedia. My ongoing reading goal for each year is to read the same number of books I read last year plus one. For 2009, my goal is to read 130 books. Yes, I do throw in mystery and romance paperbacks to achieve that goal but that allows me to spend more time reading the history and biography titles.
I found the following description from another book reader years ago somewhere on the internet and always believed it did a fair job of describing myself as a book reader. I have a few books that I adore and will read over and over again but my subject interests are widely varied.
"I'm more of a serial monogamist than a 'ho'. Oh, sometimes I'll play the field and have a couple of affairs going at once, and I currently have a standby I call upon for a quickie on weekends. And like Jimmy Carter, I'll confess to committing adultery in my heart countless times as I've lusted after one book while reading another. But in my true heart, I'm a one-book [woman]. I form strong, sloppy attachments, dotingly insisting they're the only one for me, spending hours in their company, holding them close, staring at them with earnest wonder. But alas, no matter how honorable my intentions, it never lasts, and the time inevitably comes for us to part ways, sometimes as friends, sometimes wondering whatever brought us together in the first place. And then it's on to the next one that strikes my fancy, a little older, a little wiser, and always hungrier for more."
