About meHi there, I'm a grammar school and vocational college teacher living in the north of Germany. I studied German and English literature and linguistics at the University of Cologne and James Cook University in Queensland, and my passion for these fields remains. I'm an anglophile and also left a piece of my heart in Australia forever.
Traveling and reading are my lifeblood!

Books have always been my home, my anchor and my source of peace. I learned how to read when I was still in kindergarten, and I have accumulated books since then. It didn't help that my mom worked in a bookshop when I was a teenager.
I have moved a lot and yes, I did cull a few of my books from time to time, but only books that I hadn't read and had no intention to read, or books I did not enjoy. I even own all of my favorite books read from about the age of six, when I started devouring Astrid Lindgren's wonderful stories in the early nineties.

Latest cataloguing progress:
July 2020: Finished cataloguing most of my Tolkien secondary lit
August 2020: Finished cataloguing my books relating to the Peter Jackson Tolkien movies
August 2020: Finished cataloguing my Tolkien calendars
August 2020: Finished cataloguing my Tolkien-related films

September 2020: Currently cataloguing my Tolkien CDs

I discovered LibraryThing and entered all of my library in 2012, and I kept track of all new acquisitions for several years, but lost control one day. After moving in with my fiancé I am now entering all of my books that are missing, plus all of his books (not as many as mine, but he is a keen reader and has quite a collection as well). I'm also re-organizing my virtual shelves and checking every book regarding the cover, authors and other details, trying to get a fresh overview and creating more useful tags. It's a very slow process that will take more than a couple of years, but I'm enjoying it tremendously!

~~~
About my libraryMy library contains a wild mix of genres and topics! There are many issues and concepts that are important to me, and I enjoy many different literary genres. I tried compiling a list here, but it got out of hand - so if you're interested, just look at my collections.
~~~

I have created a separate collection called "Other media" that includes CDs, DVDs and also digital copies or streamed content - mostly book-related. I include films and soundtracks if they have a literary aspect (such as screen versions and adaptations of novels I have read, bio pics about authors etc). Other films are not included unless they deal with a topic I‘m particularly interested in or I use them in my lessons.

While my real shelves are finally well organized after our move, LibraryThing has proved invaluable when looking for something specific or needing an overview.

~~~
Although I am not very active in the forums, I feel like LibraryThing is my calm heaven in the noisy and hectic times of social media, and for sure the very best website for bibliophiles! If you have any questions about the books in my collection, feel free to drop me a line :-)
