I happened to see your review for PTerry's The Colour of Magic - I'm sure anyone who has already recommended Pratchett to you will tell you to try again with something a bit later, but I'm chiming in too, because it would be a shame to give up - the first two or three were good enough to get people interested but I think the real magic came later... if you want a random person's rec's then leave Rincewind behind for now and try any of these (ordered roughly chronologically - as you gain in quality of writing, you leave behind some of the early character building):
Wyrd Sisters
Mort
Small Gods
Witches Abroad
Lords and Ladies
Maskerade
Guards! Guards!
Night Watch
Going Postal
Thud
