Hi Nicole. We have a lot of lit interest in common! Good luck and have fun.
GOOD LUCK and BEST WISHES Nichole.
This class will be my first experience studying young adult literature and resources. I am very excited to get started! My current involvement with YA literature consists of reading books in this genre for my own enjoyment. YA literature is my personal favorite, so most of my reading for pleasure is drawn from this category. My favorite YA author is Anne Brashares, author of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. I also enjoy books by Libba Bray, Meg Cabot, Madeleine L'Engle, Brian Jacques, Donna Jo Napoli, Cornelia Funke, Ursula LeGuin and Philip Pullman (actually, the list goes on and on!). I have also recently started reading Scott Westerfeld and Jaclyn Moriarty, both of which I really enjoy. It is really difficult for me to pick just one favorite book, but I think The Secret Life of Bees would probably be my choice (if it is considered a YA book). If not, my second choice would have to be A Wrinkle in Time. The whole book is amazing, but I just love the beginning when Meg is curled up in bed on a dark, stormy night! It is so easy to open your heart to her and identify with the loneliness she's feeling. Of course at the risk of sounding really unoriginal, I have to say that I was considering all the YA novels I've read outside of the Harry Potter septology because they are definitely my favorite books of any genre! I think J.K. Rowling creates the most vivid world and characters, and this makes me feel completely immersed when I am reading her books.
