We live in Provincetown now on Cape Cod. I still travel to Greece a lot and Istanbul where I have cousins. Maybe next time you are in RI give us a call!!
My Greek and Byzantine library seems to be at a standstill. I either own or have read the books I am intersted in. I have not seen anything new that has come out. I should check out your library. One of my favourite authors is still Steven Runciman. A good friend of mine in London knew him fairly well. I would have loved to have met him.
I am presently reading Sons of the Conquerors (the Rise of the Turkic World) by Hugh Pope which is disappointing- a very casually written book- more like an article for the Sunday Supplement of some newspaper. Drop me a note sometime soon. Love to chat.

Yes, Cypriots are curious... and very friendly, and that's one of many things I love about them! My husband and I met at university. He studied in the United States on a Fulbright scholarship, and was required to return to Cyprus for two years. Although we loved living in Cyprus, we did plan to stay for only two years -- my husband (Stelios) had studied bio-medical engineering, and at the time, that industry did not exist in Cyprus (not sure if it does even now.) We thought there would be more opportunity in the States. We do think of returning for good often , but with children in school, we really have roots here. It's wonderful to go back and visit (he has family living in Strovolos also), but life in Cyprus is not the same as it was when Stelios was growing up, or even when we lived there. We would love to be able to spend more time there, but from Colorado it is a long and expensive journey. Stelios was born in Nicosia (in Neapolis, now theTurkish area), and grew up in Lemesos after the war. I do love Nicosia -- it was such a wonderful place to live. The last time we went (2007), we took a vacation to Paphos, which we also love.
I'm so glad you read to your daughter. When I was growing up, it was just a habit we loved so much we never really grew out of it. I still read aloud to my girls -- they are 10 and 7 -- and I hope to continue as long as possible.
Where did you vacation in Greece?
Best wishes,
Anne
