Hi - I'm replying here because your question in "Talk" isn't associated with any group, which makes it hard to reply over there...

Can someone quickly explain what 'tags' means?

Tags are identifiers that you apply to your books. They can be anything - genre, physical descriptions, reviews, status, location - you can use tags to do anything you want with YOUR library. Once you start cataloging hundreds of books, they show you things about your library that you may not have been aware of.

Examples: you can tag a book
"history" "American Revolution" "1st bookcase" "third shelf" "read in college" "Four stars" "bought used" or any other attribute you like.

And then you (or anyone else on LT...) can search your tags and find ALL of the books with that tag, either in your own collection, or anywhere on Library Thing. Tags are a powerful tool for organization - and YOU get to decide how you want to use it.

Also, is there a way to search/view other member profiles?

Sure - just click on their username, that should bring you to their "profile page", and from there, click on the blue "see catalog" link.

Have fun!

- Bob
