About meOklahomans for Equality is a non-profit lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community organization. It began in 1980 as Oklahomans for Human Rights, then changed to Tulsa Oklahomans for Human Rights (TOHR) in 1985, and finally became Oklahomans for Equality in November 2007. We opened the first LGBT community center in 1996, and after a massive capital campaign, purchased and opened the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center in 2007.
MISSION
Oklahomans for Equality seeks equal rights for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) individuals and families through advocacy, education, programs, alliances, and the operation of the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center.
About my libraryThousands of LGBT titles and exquisite glass art line the walls of the Nancy & Joe McDonald Rainbow Library in the Equality Center. Open 6 days a week during Center hours, Monday through Saturday, 3pm to 9pm the library has titles available for leisure reading, research, discussion groups, and is a resource for local students when writing on LGBT issues. Books are available for check-out for the community.
A mainstay of the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center since the centers opening in 1996, the Nancy & Joe McDonald Rainbow Library was named in their honor in the Spring of 1999. Nancy is Past National President of Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), President of PFLAG Tulsa, has testified before the US Congress on GLBT issues and was the inaugural receipeint of the OkEq Lifetime Achievement Award.
