About meHello. I am an avid reader, but that probably goes without saying. My roots lie in science fiction and fantasy, but now I haunt bookstores looking for that 'perfect' story regardless of genre. My current tastes lie towards the slightly strange, reality askewed, the modern fairy tale if you will. Once, in my youth while working at one of the major bookstore giants I imagined that the world was full of great stories, thousands of them; filling the shelves to near bursting, where for a few dollars I would be dropped into a tale that I would feel in my marrow. Sadly I think we all know how this particular story ends. Mediocrity holds the day, greatness dwells in the shadows and if one is not careful, a sort of jaded bitterness can set in. That's why this site is so great. Here like is drawn to like and one can explore freely without feeling cheated. Simply wonderful.
About my libraryI am blessed with owning more books than I can read and cursed with a selective memory that tends to forget anything that does not rise above average (not there is anything wrong with average). I guess this is a blessing in a way as well, as whole chunks of my library become relatively new to me as the years pass. It makes rating books a bit challenging though.
I have precious few bad books to rate, not because I manage to avoid stinkers, but because they tend to stay with me even less then the mediocre books do. I must not have the brain space nor the emotional fortitude to catalog crap. Still, a few stand out and I will post those.
Happy reading everybody. May the next book you pick up be just what you need just when you needed it.

Just finished The Colorado Kid today, and thought I'd send you a note, per our earlier exchange.
I liked it, but of course I eat up anything that SK writes! I do, however, remember noticing in the early part of the book that it seemed to be taking a while to get into the "meat" of the story (in fact, the "meat" doesn't start until Chapter 5), and I sort of marveled at the fact that he can get away with just about anything in his writing--my writing professors would have pounced on me for not establishing conflict before Chapter 5! But the character development was enough to keep me going.
It's also interesting how he "ends" the story. I won't give it away, but suffice it to say it's a bit unconventional. (He discusses that in the book's Afterword, in fact). Anyway, I still enjoyed it.
Then again, SK could write a classified ad and I'd probably think it was a great short story! ;-)

Yes, Winter's Tale is one of my favourite books. I personally feel it is a masterpiece. Very pleased that you are going to read The Magic Lands. Looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

Pleased to see my book on your list :) Is it one you already have or one for the future? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the story!

I, too, pine for the North and to be out of this god-forsaken hell pit otherwise known as Florida, but alas, I am firmly planted here, methinks. Periodic trips northward will have to suffice.
Good luck with your LibraryThinging!
