About meOriginally from Dublin. I'm in my 30's (but nearer 40 than 30 :-(. I'm married to Nicola who is a restaurant owner/manager. We have one son aged 10. I am an Anglican priest in the diocese of Limerick & Killaloe. The parish where I work is largely rural/agricultural and has a very young population with lots of blow-ins like me trying to get away from the madness of urban life. The town where I live, Cloughjordan (meaning Rock of Jordan) in North Tipperary has been chosen as the location of Ireland's first ECO-Village. Exciting times ahead!

About my libraryAll over the place but basically liberal/emergent theology

Hi Deidre - you are the first person to contact me through LibraryThing so thanks for that! Yes I got a little bit carried away with that review on 'Leaving Church' but it made a huge impact on me and really helped me see my own ministry in a new light. Interesting that you are UCC - I have to say I have taken an interest in UCC since I stumbled on Robin Meyers about a year ago. (I do think my own Anglican Communion could learn a lot from the inclusiveness of the UCC.) I regularly download Robin Meyers sermons from Mayflower. Also I am reading Barack Obama's "Audacity of Hope" at the moment who is also UCC. However my interest in him comes more especially from the fact that his 6*Great Grandfather comes from my parish and after the recent discovery in our parochial registers we have had a huge interest from the US to the extent that CBS sent over a film crew to cover the story! Peter Gomes on the other hand I actually discovered on a flying visit to Harvard en route to +Gene Robinson's consecration! I was browsing in the COOP bookstore in Cambridge Mass and came across the book and that was it - sold after a quick browse! Super book and I can see how it would have a profound effect on anyone who had been victimized by the exclusive Gospel preached in far too many places. What else am I reading "Heretic's guide to Eterenity" by Spencer Burke - another life changing book "Whats so amazing about Grace/" Yancey, "Velvet Elvis" by Rob Bell who is coming to Dublin next week - can't wait! Good to hear from you and I have enjoyed looking through your catalog - few books there going onto my Amazon wish list :-)

Hello, Stephen. I enjoyed your review of Barbara Brown Taylor's Leaving Church, which was way more complete and on the mark than my own. Think we share a similar world view and age group. I would classify my own theology as "liberal/emergent," too (I'm United Church of Christ), and I am always very happy when I run into a fellow traveler who gets what Christ was and is all about. I see that you read The Good Book, too--that was the book that brought me back to Christianity as an adult--and Robin Meyers (he attends my church in the summer time). What else are you reading?

Peace,
Deidre (wordygirl39)
