About meI could give you the standard surface stuff - married forty years, coached my kids soccer teams, etc. But you are probably more curious about the time I lived in a converted fire house, and slid down the fire pole on my way to my office job in San Francisco. Sometimes I rode to work on a motorcycle. Maybe you'd like the story of the time I almost ran away with the circus.

But this isn't the place or the time for all that. Visit my blog. I'm working on a book, and you'll be the first to know if it gets done and published.

About my libraryI also enjoy reading Science Fiction, fantasy, biographies, memoirs, and historical fiction, but if a book is interesting and well written, it doesn't have to fit into a specific interest of mine - I like discovering new ideas and new authors.

Our apartment is smaller than the house we had before retirement. We added shelves in the laundry room to our free-standing bookshelves and gave away nearly half our library. My library is smaller but more focused now.

Oh, it's great in Portugal. I moved here 3 years ago from Edinburgh. The city's really colorful and you can't help but feel right at home. I hope you'll take some time and visit.
I hope you get to see my book collection some time soon. It's really unfortunate that I can't add the books I read before joining LT. I've been really busy with work and everything else so I don't think I get enough time to add them all.
And about the books you've recommended, they're definitely on my TBR pile of books at home. Other than paranormal romances, I'm really interested in historical romances. So if you've got any suggestions, please tell me.
BTW, thanks so much for accepting my invite.
Have a great day!
We are settled in our apartment but after moving in six book shelves, finding nooks and crannies to store a few more books here and there, and in desperation adding five shelves for books to the walls of our laundry room, we have arrived at the dreaded moment of truth: we must winnow our collection of books down to a size that will fit into our new home. My permanent collection will end up less than 800, and the local Friends of the Library will benefit from the rest. My husband's collection (not listed at LT) is mainly technical or scientific, and will end up about the same - less than 800 will find shelf space. At the same time, with boxes yet unpacked in storage, I bought ten new books with my Christmas money (not counting the e-book I just purchased). I find myself thinking about sending clothes to Goodwill and putting books in my chest of drawers. Who needs so many clothes anyway? But no, I scold myself - I can wear my books inside my skin, but they are not interchangeable with outerwear.

My family used to joke that if I could, I would move into the city library and live there, and just come home to visit. Maybe not so far off the truth after all. Apparently I have tried to turn my home into the library.
Our house sold, and closed the last day of 2008. Now we are working on 'stuff' that is still in storage - what to squeeze into the apartment, what to give to relatives, what to sell or donate. But there is always room for more books, and Santa was good to us, with gift cards to Barnes and Noble and to Borders Books and to Amazon. So many books, so little time...
MOVING -

Hi to any friends who may stop by Pandababy's pages. I've been packing up 24 years of memories and we are moving to a smaller place this week. Next month we'll be working on the old house, getting ready to sell it.

My books are packed, and not many will fit into our new place, but trimming down the book shelves will have to wait until October.

I'm in over my head with all that needs to be done, so if I don't respond right away to comments, please be patient with me.

I expect to have time to participate in the Library Thing community again starting later this year.
Oh, that's great. Daoud Hari spoke at a bookstore near me, but I missed it, sadly.

I know the March books are still trickling in, so I wouldn't worry about Spirit of the Place yet. I'll check with the publisher about "Black Jews, Jews and other Heroes" though, since you certainly should have gotten that one by now!

Hi Panda,
I thought that makeing a single thread for organizations that are out there to help would be good for the group. So many people want to do something but then don't know where to start. With luck that will help...and that people will start listing up other organizations that are out there.

TCoT was good. The writing was a little disjointed at times and didn't have that conversational feel that some biographies have. But I think that it sends a great message about what one person can do if they just have the will and determination. Its very insipirational. Now while I know that I can never sacrifice as much as Mortenson has, it does make me more willing to do what little I can do to make things better in the world for others.
Hi PandaBaby,
I am glad that you stopped by my library - as you can see, I prefer non-fiction to fiction usually, but will read any good book. I also looked through your library and saw many books that I would love to read. I marked the reviews so I can go back and look at the titles when I get ready to order some from the big AM&AZON in the sky! I am excited too about the new Books without Borders group. Sounds like some interesting conversations.
thanks,

Hi Padababy - Sadly my profile pic is not the Chicago Public Library or I would probably take up residence there. It's a picture from the library at Trinity College - many of us bibliophiles find it drool-worthy! ;) But I must say I love your panda picture as well, quite adorable! Thanks for your interest in the Readers Without Borders group - I hope we can have some good discussions. Let me know if you have any questions about how to add book covers to your profile - it's really easy! Nice to "meet" you! -el :)
Thanks for stopping by my profile page and marking me as one of your interesting libraries. In real life I only have red hair when I dye it that way...which I do every now and again bringing out the full Irish in me. ;-) I liked the pic though and so thats why I added it.

I am also a huge fan of lists. I make lists for just about anything I can think of. Its an addiction. lol
Hello,
glad you found my library interesting, as i did yours. I have read much more in sci-fi and fantasy than I list, because they were all library books which I read them by the shelf. I checked out your blog, and had an aha moment. I caught all but the beginning of Stardust with my kids and we all loved, loved it. I had no clue it was a Neil Gaman book, I've come across his name frequently on LT and had not yet checked him out. I will now, thks.
Happy reading!
Mel
I'm sure you'll enjoy the rest of the year with Cherryh to read.

I haven't read much of her early work at all, bbut pick up such books as I come across them.
Just a passing Cherryh fan saying hi. As you're enjoying the Foreigner series I'm sure you'll be glad to know she's curently writing book #10 for it. Completion date - when it's finished?!
