About meArchaeologist, then History teacher, both in NE of England. Now living in Kent and a writer.

About my libraryMy library has grown over the years. It started as the text books I needed for my university degree. I added a few novels from time to time bought from junk shops. Then, as I worked as an archaeologist, I bought books about the history and archaeology of County Durham, UK, which was where I was employed. And more novels. When I became a teacher my reading changed and so did the additions to my library. And more novels which I read while travelling to and from work every day.

From time to time I have thinned out the novels but not the non-fiction material which steadily grew. Basically I had a library which covered from the dawn of earliest human beings right up to today with a pretty comprehensive section on North East England. Then I moved to a smaller house in South East England. I sold at least 1,500 books and still had to dispose of more when I got to the new house. Heart breaking isn't the word for it.

Since then I have built up quite a respectable collection of poetry collections and poetry theory as well as an extensive set of biographies and modern novels. The fact that it now occupies most of the house is neither here nor there.
