Hi Polyp, I am absolutely hooked on librarything. I have spent every spare (and a lot that weren't spare) moment on cataloguing my books. I am astounded by the riches I have on my shelves and dismayed that I will never find the time to re-read all of them. Then there are all the books I haven't got and haven't read.

Hi Rose,

Happy New Year!

Thank you very much for accepting me. I'm new around here and am genuinely surprised myself by how many intriguing people I am finding on this site via their libraries.

Be happy to give you recommendations any time. On the magic realism front, there is a lot out there that isn't particularly good. A good place to start if you like short stories is Jorge Luis Borges. The other one I would recommend for starters is Kafka's metamorphosis -I see that you already have this in your library -have you read it? For the full length treatment (and I see that you also have this already), I would always start with the masterpiece, Marquez's a hundred years of solitude - I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but personally I think it is a gem a minute kind of a read. If you've already read and didn't like it, tell me why and that may help me direct you towards something that might work for you.

It's my birthday next week and my husband was all set to get me an ereader but, in the middle of a bookshop with another two arms full of books, I realised, I just don't want one. Is that terrible of me???

Anyway, looking forward to book chat/ laments over 2009!
