About meHi there, I'm a young (what 30's young =p) fun loving horror freak. Unfortunately few of my buddies are into "reading" and those that are think my tastes are somewhat strange. Hoping to find some like-minded terror lovers to shoot the breeze with about nasty novels and shit scary short stories.

About my libraryMostly horror. Occasionally I'll pick up an autobiography but horror's where it's at for me.

Thanks for the link Pete! I'll probably buy one or both in the not too distant future. I really need to start building up on the horror side of my collection, makes me cringe when I realise how many books I let go in the late 70s and early 80s, I think I was buying (and reading) around two books a week. Sigh.
Finally found it - Birthday Girl by Robert Rush unfortunately it's out of print so maybe I'll find it in one of the second hand book shops I frequent lol.
Thanks so much for reading "Camp," Peter! I really appreciate the feedback.

I don't really have a list, just a vast pile o' books to be read in whatever order strikes my fancy. I've just started The Traveler by John Twelve Hawks which is a five hundred page slog. I'm not sure what I think of it yet, so in theory I could abandon it.

Either way, I was going to make my next book The Ruins by Scott Smith, but I can tackle Insanity, Illinois instead. It's pretty short.
Hey I don't do things by halves, my wish list is only just starting LOL. I read Fluke many years ago, and I loved it, my copy just went AWOL along with so many others. I think out of the Herbert Books there's only about four that I haven't read.

I've remembered a few other horror books that I read in the early 80s, made me smile see if you've heard of any of these.

The Claw - Norah Lofts, The Crone - Bill Garnett, Ghost House, Ghost Light - Claire McNally, Suffer the Children, Comes the Blind Fury - John Saul... weird how much they frightened me back then.
Not to worry old bean, I'll find it somewhere, I've been looking on and off since just before Christmas I think. I thought you might have an idea as you're my expert on nasty, horrible, creatures and thing books.

I suppose Wyndham's are horror books in a way, they're so gentle and so very polite and all these really awful things happen. Anyway enjoy!
Can't believe you didn't know about The Midwich Cuckoos I guess it's one of those things where so many people know that they think everyone else knows too. Good book though.

Maybe you can help me... I read a book probably late 70s or early 80s and can't remember the author, and quite honestly can't really remember the title. Lot's of help I'm giving you here. Anyway, it was the follow on to a book I belive was called something like The Birthday Party.

I think the one I read was possibly called The Birthday Girl.

Basically the first book was about a group of children terrorised by a couple of the kids into doing nasty things culminating in a girl having her face pushed into a birthday cake, lit candles and all. Second book was this particular girl grown up and undergoing plastic surgery, and trying to find out which one had pushed her into the cake. Now if you can come up with an author I'd be extremely grateful.
Hey Pete,

Ray Garton answered that post on the Leisure forum. I've copied and pasted it for your reading pleasure:

The incredible cover art for GRAVEN IMAGE was done by Alex McVey, an enormously talented artist who's really catching on in the horror field. You're right -- that is one nasty image, and it STILL gives me the creeps!

Unfortunately, there are no immediate plans for a GRAVEN IMAGE reprint. But should that ever happen, I'll definitely post here. You can also keep up with any news on my stuff at my MySpace page, which I'm in the process of building:

Thanks for asking, guys!
You are welcome. You have a great library collection too that I plan on looking into once in awhile. My library does not reflect all the books that I have read. I use it more as a tool to keeps tabs on my TO BE READ pile and the number of books that I have read during the current year. Once we move to a new year, I delete the books that I have read and rated. Needless to say, our reading libraries would have a lot more in common if I kept an ongoing record. You are one of the few people that I know that has also read BLUE WORLD by McCammon. It is one of my favorite short story compilations of all time.

Okay, I've posted it as a thread called 'Question for Ray Garton'.

If you are on myspace, he was also looking for connections there: http://www.myspace.com/raygarton
Hey, I had the same problem, but mine lasted TWO MONTHS!

Send an email to Chris Nelson [cnelson@dorchesterpub.com] and he'll getcha fixed up. I'm Atomic Punch! on those forums. I was going to change my username here, but it seemed like too much trouble.

(By the way, I'll start a topic on that Ray Garton novella, see what he says.)
Rabid,

You might want to look into joining the Leisure Horror forums at Dorchesterpub.com. Huge Horror Fan turned me on to it and it's great.

Ray Garton, Michael Laimo, Brian Keene and a bunch of other Leisure regulars post there.
I saw where we both have the book [The Ruins] and then I just saw the trailer for the movie

cool
I think they looked through the Guiness Book of Records, or it's equivalent then, and decided ok let's make our town the longest name in the world, oh yeah, and let's not put many vowels in it either and lots of l's.

Hey I found out what it actually means, cool site I visited to get the correct spelling (you didn't really think I wrote that off the top of my head did you?). St Mary's Church in the hollow of white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and St Tysilio’s church near the Red Cave. Guess they didn't have maps and had to give verbal directions. I put it here so that you won't have to answer everyone when they visit your page and say "what's that mean then?"

Ok something that may possibly make you smile but will definitely make you groan:

Two tourists were driving through Wales.
As they were approaching Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwlll...
they started arguing about the pronunciation of the town's name.
They argued back and forth until they stopped for lunch. As they stood at the counter, one tourist asked the blonde employee,"Before we order, could you please settle an argument for us?
"Would you please pronounce where we are... very slowly?"
The blonde girl leaned over the counter and said,
"Burrrrrrrr, gerrrrrrr, Kiiiiing."
No problem as long as you don't expect me to pronounce, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwlll... as a kind of test, then we'll get along just fine.
Thanks for the invitation I accepted as you may have gathered. You know I didn't realise you were from the UK how strange is that, me too though I'm across the border in England.
