About meI'm a twenty-three year old college student majoring in both Music Performance and English (my profile pic is me performing a viola concerto with the Chamber Orchestra), which means I've been a college student for five years and I'm not quite finished yet. When I have free time, I read. I also work at the university's library, so I read there as well. I think it would be fantastic to be a librarian and run my own library some day. Short of that, maybe owning a bookstore would be nice. Preferably a used one, as I love used books.

I tend to read multiple books at the same time because I'm always in a different mood and hate having to finish a book before I can start another one. It just makes me mad at the book I'm currently reading and it's never fun to be mad at reading :(

Currently reading:

Flight to Canada by Ishmael Reed
Beloved by Toni Morrison
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
The Inner Game of Music by Barry Green
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

About my libraryI tend to buy more books than I can read, so of the many books I own, I haven't read most of them. I tried to stop buying books once, but it didn't work out. I succeeded for a few weeks, then went on about five consecutive book buying binges resulting in a lot of spending of money I didn't really have at the moment. I buy books. That's just how I am. ;-)

"If I have money, I buy books. If I have any left over, I buy food and clothes."
~Story of my life... :P

A brief explanation of my tags:
Own: I own these books, regardless of whether or not I have read them.
Read: These are the books I own and have read
To Read: These are the books I own, have not read, but want to read
***Note: I do not mark collections of short stories or poetry as "Read" or "To Read" for the simple fact that I don't read them straight through but rather prefer to dip into them, savoring a poem here or a story there. To read them like a work of fiction takes away from their beauty and strength, I think.
Read But Unowned: I either borrowed these from the library or a friend and have read them
Wishlist: I do not own these, have not read them, but really really want to.
Used To Own: I used to own these book and have read them, but for some reason or another I got rid of my copy (likely because I didn't like the book and needed the shelf space).
Abandoned: Self explanatory, but these are really bad books that I couldn't finish. I would never recommend these books to anyone.
On Hiatus:Books that are okay and at some point, I plan on finishing but for the moment, I don't really feel like reading them.

...and a quick explanation of my starring system:
5 stars - Hella fantastic and recommended for everyone! I found very few to no flaws.
4 stars - Really good but I didn't love it.
3 stars - Recommended if you're a fan of the genre or the summary strikes your fancy. I found it decent but thought there were some major faults.
2 stars - Not recommended. Read at your own risk.
1 star -What an utterly awful, disgusting, meaningless piece of garbage. Reserved only for the worst of the worst.

You win some; you lose some! Neither of these is a rare book so they will pop up again. Thanks for the update and thanks especially for being an angel!
I'm so sorry about that. You'll get your point back, right? Are you worried about it showing on your account?

I'm in no rush for the books....take your time. I really appreciate all of the times you came through for me and really hope to be able to do the same for you sometime soon.

Take care and thanks for being in touch,
Michelle
Re Ma Jian - avoiding cluttering up the angel thread here, but there's a short film of the event I went to online:

http://www.lrbshop.co.uk/pages.php?pagei...

as well as the audio of the whole thing:

http://www.lrbshop.co.uk/news/29/Ma-Jian...

which I thought you might be interested in! I got a copy of Beijing Coma but still haven't got round to reading it.

Mooch has been accepted now :-) He says he'll be posting in a few days.

Cheers,
R/FT
Hi RebeccaAnn

Don't know if you got the email from BookMooch, but City of Illusions has been loaded and reserved for you.

Cheers!
Lauren
Oh well, you win a few; you lose a few! Overall, I'm pretty happy with what I've won. Thanks so much for being an angel!
Cool :) I'm at work now, but I'll load and reserve it when I get home.

I forgot to mention that I have a cat - hope that's ok?

Cheers!
Lauren
Hi Rebecca

I've got a copy of City of Illusions if you still need one. It's a 1996 Vista edition, bought second-hand. The cover has a few creases and the pages have yellowed, but otherwise it's in good condition.

It's been on my shelf for a while, but I don't think I'm ever going to get round to reading it, so I'd rather give it to someone who will :) Let me know if you want it and I'll reserve it for you. I can send it on Saturday 31st, via airmail.

Cheers!
Lauren
Doh! Sorry - you're absolutely right, I'm just braindead. I think I'd just been reading someone's thread about One Hundred Years... so had Marquez on the brain. Just not the right one.

I must have magicked her, as she's just sent me a 'delay' notice - so I think that probably means she's intending to accept!! Will keep you up to date.
My mooch of One Hundred Years of Solitude is still just showing as 'requested' :-( I haven't emailed or hit 'remind' yet, but will follow it up - will keep you posted.

Cheers,

Rachael
RebeccaAnn - I just got a reply from Leigh...he is madly finishing his thesis to submit this week (why we all do these things at the last minute must be an integral part of human nature I have decided - lol) and hasn't even had time to look for the book. I don't know if he actually got your email, he replied to my cancellation. I asked him to let me know if it is the WHOLE book - and maybe we can get it later???
I'll be in touch, if he gets back to me...
~Lyn
Sure, keep in mind that my sending is limited at the moment. :)
No problem - but it says only volume 1. If you wouldn't mind, you could you ask him exactly what you need? I have mooched from him before and he is cool about all this stuff... Should there be two volumes??? I is confooosed!

Ask him to hold off sending until you are sure - I don't mind cancelling. I only ask this as you will know what you want...is that OK?

~Lyn
And if that doesn't work out, I have a copy of The Blind Assassin that I could be persuaded to send. :)
Thank you so much for keeping me updated!
Thank you for angeling The Last Town on Earth (in English!) for me!
Hi there,
Just a little reminder that "Fat Girl" is for me!

Thanks again,
Michelle
Hello my wonderful angel - just a reminder that "Things I learned from girls who dumped me" is for me.

Thanks again,
Michelle
Hello! Leaving you a message as you asked about the 3 YA books you angel mooched for me. Thank you SO much! And no worries about the condition - as long as they're not falling apart or anything I'll be happy :D
Hi, Rebecca!

I was reading your profile (over from the BookMooch forums), and I have been *dying* to recommend this book of poetry I read recently to someone. It's called The Surrender Tree: Poems of Cuba's Struggle for Freedom, and I loved it. This rec is coming from a non-poetry reader, though, so you may want to take it with a grain of salt. :)
