About meI'm a Europhile bibliophile who likes few things better than browsing in a second-hand bookshop to see what I might find. However, since I'm a slow reader by LT standards, and my 'to read' pile is rather too large for my liking, I've been trying rein myself in of late. My ambition is to reach the point where I have no more books left in my 'to read' collection and can legitimately go on a book binge. Watch this space!

Monthly progress with the TBR pile:
'To read' total on 31/7/2009: 131 books (+5 - I got books for my birthday!)
'To read total' on 31/8/2009: 131 books (= - not bad considering I got some late birthday presents and read some borrowed books this month.)
'To read total' on 30/9/2009: 132 books (+1 - OK, there were some lapses this month.)
'To read total' on 31/10/2009: 133 books (+1 - not bad considering I bought four books this month, but I'd really like my total to go down next time!)

About my libraryI mainly like to read literary fiction (classic and contemporary), but I also have an interest in non-fiction relating to Germany, Russia and Central and Eastern Europe. I'm also trying to read more in French and German, which I studied at university.

My library contains only those books I own. Books I've read but don't own are in their own collection, handily named 'read but unowned'. The tag 'UFIE' stands for 'unread fiction in English', the idea being that this is an easy way to attack the 'to read' pile!

Thanks for your prompt response Rebeki.
We are doing the follow up to "Pillars of the Earth", "World Without End" in mid-January if you might be interested at that time. I can get back with you closer to the time of.
Sorry you cannot join us this time, but I do indeed understand time constraints and prior commitments and getting those books on your shelves read is definitely a biggie and one I need to work on myself.
Thanks again and I will see you on the threads.
love,

Hi;
Mark and I have been discussing the possibility of another group read in November and want your input. We have narrowed it down to two books at this point. "The People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks and "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. So chat it up with friends or us and let us know if you are up for it and what you think. Probably the same plan as with "Pillars of the Earth" which seemed to work out perfectly for almost all of us.
Think it over and give one of us a shout.
hugs and looking forward to hearing from you,
belva
Oops! I went through my library the other day removing most of the stars because I don't really have a system worked out, so the half star is just a remnant of that. In fact I thought Women in Love was fabulous. I can't remember if I found it a slow start or not, but as a whole I really enjoyed it.

I like your "monthly progress with the TBR pile"! And isn't Daunt books great? although I only know the Marylebone shop.

Off to delete that lurking half star now!
