About meI've been a big fan of public libraries ever since I learned to read. Most books in my catalog are either paperbacks or borrowed from my local library. I do have some books I'm very attached to, like my Comte de Monte-Cristo (in four volumes and with some wear and tear).

About my libraryI've listed the books I own and those I've read since joining LT in the summer of 2007.

Hello Nina,
Welcome and have fun book nudging! I think you're our first Scandinavian domicile!
Cheers, Kevin.
You've been busy! "outdoor skills" - brilliant. I stared at those books and couldn't think of a thing.

I haven't read any Henning Mankell. Off to the library...
Hi- I am a horrible correspondent. Busy, and also too caught up in the insanity of our presidential election.

No real suggestion on Wahlöö/Sjowall... it's been too long. Start at the beginning? :)

I'm pretty much ready to give up on the tagging after a few more. Maybe post that there are 100 or so left, and invite someone else to run these books down.

Have a good Sunday..
Gosh, Nina, I'm sorry almost the whole month has gone by without a reply to you. Thanks for getting us below 300 untagged books (yes, it's just you and me, I think).

Hope things are good. I saw in the combiners' log that you were fixing up the Wahlöö/Sjowall pages... I'd forgotten that I read all of their books that my local library had (about 1978-9?). I don't remember a thing about them, except that I kept going back to get more, so I must have enjoyed them. Think I'll go check and see if they're still there...

J
"Politics" sounds great to me.

Thanks for your positive attitude and bigger perspective. :)
How are you? It looks like you've been tagging a little, off and on, like me... it's hard to be really enthusiastic after the rather depressing lack of interest or feedback, after all that work! :)

One nice blog post I saw: here.

Hope things are okay with you...
Hi - are you up? I found the time, and am posting in a minute or two that the library's done. Hope it looks okay with everyone.

Thanks for all your help! Joel
Yes!! We're done. Doesn't it look good?

Between work and a play rehearsal, it'll be tomorrow morning before I can finish EH's post. At least I've started, anyway.

Thanks, Joel
Oenology? heh. Maybe some people will click on that, hoping it's something dirty!

Thanks for saying I should post the announcement.. I'll message nperrin and see what she says. Or...maybe Papa himself could announce it? "My library is complete... thanks to all the people who helped, such as... tagging my books is an ongoing effort... etc."

I could even end with something amusing (corny?) like "Now back to my poker game. Bill Faulkner is into me for ten bucks."

Joel
Hi. If you want them, the duplicates from 6828-7369 still need to be done (it looks like about 15 of them). I think I've gotten all the others.

I've noticed several other cases of duplicate numbers (773 - 773a, 3341 - 3341a, etc), so any hope of matching our total with the list's total may be difficult. It looks like Christina has just 60 or so still to go, and with the remaining duplicates, I think we'll be well over 7400...

As always, great tag & combining work!

Who should do the post announcing that we're done?

Joel
Ha. "I love the 'birds' tag. Simple and to the point'.. now you make me want to change "ichthyology" to "fishes". Hmmm.

Still many duplicates in spookykitten's part to do, which is SO MUCH FUN.

An interesting question for you - I've noticed a bunch of books (often when Googling them, just to see if they're fiction, or what, or when looking at other LTers' tags) that have gay themes. Is this a possible tag, or will people think we're editorializing, or trying to pin a label on EH?

Joel
Thanks. :) His library is looking good.

I have a catalog problem I need advice for (I'm going to leave a message for jjlong as well).

In EH's catalog, #5191 is Big Game Shooting by Phillipps-Wolley, Clive (MH)
#7246 is Big Game Shooting by Wolley, Clive Phillips (kwfv)

Should this be treated as a catalog error so that we do one entry (kwfv MH)? Or should I enter another copy of the book for MH?

I'm leaning towards thinking it's an accidental double-entry and have left it off for now. Let me know what you think.

Christina
Hi... "historical fiction" occurred to me, too, so we're probably right. The C.S. Forester books, Westward Ho!, and the like don't really seem "literature" to me, so that would be a good tag for them.

Travel looks really good (as does all the tags you've done!); I didn't imagine there'd be so many.

Do you think there are enough children's books to merit their own tag?

Almost done with my duplicates. I'll look through spookykitten's sections after that...
Aeronautics --> aviation is great. Less old-fashioned/overly scientific.

Travel - I had originally done all the Michelins, Fielding's, etc as "travel guide" (in other words, just books with lists of hotels and sightseeing highlights, tourist tips) and figured we'd have to do a "travel" or "travel memoir" tag for all the others (Istanbul to Damascus on a Camel, or whatever), but now that you bring it up, I'm not sure there's any reason for us to make the distinction. Is there?

By the way, you mentioned your English, and yours seems better than most of the people I work with. I probably shouldn't be surprised :)
Whimsy is good.
And your religion/Catholicism idea sounds the best way to go to me..

Don't think I'm "claiming" those tags (nature, etc.)- feel free to work on those if you like.

Christiguc hadn't seen the tagging, and says she'll probably take more of the remaining books to free us up for that. Also, I think I'll go back and add the duplicate copies of books that have only one copy entered (I know I was just using "number of copies" on the edit page, but these books show up nowhere. The comment "two books on Hemingway's shelf, why not two on his virtual shelf?" seems right, I think.
Good morning... here's what christiguc wrote back to me:

I meant to finish it up one weekend and completely forgot about it. I'm so so sorry you all are waiting on me!! I've finished through 4811. They are fun to do, so I'll do that through 5000. You two can take 5001 through 5500 if you're willing so that you don't have to keep waiting on me. Sorry again about the long delay. With this, we should be able to get Papa H's library finished and unveiled before the end of the week.

I told her that might a bit optimistic! If you'd like to start at 5401, I'll start at 5001, and we'll see what happens.
I was thinking "religion" (for general works) and "Catholicism" etc for specific books, like the Mass. But that's getting pretty detailed - we could just tag them all "religion" or "spirituality". The military thing is frustrating. We do need "military history" but many of the war books also deserve that tag... (just like "elephants" also deserves a more general "wildlife" or "nature" or "animals" tag.) lol, what a can of worms we've opened. I still have nature/natural history, marine biology, oceanography, communism, pulp fiction, Soviet Union in mind. Among others.

I'll write christiguc a note now.. see what her situation is.

Joel
Yes, I think "memoir" would be good for any kind of personal narrative.. reminiscences... anything that's not a formal autobiography. Many of our tags are pretty subjective, so I don't think there's much chance of making a "mistake":)

I finished my part, and you must be pretty close. Then, off to talk to christiguc about her part. That's all that's left.
Hi, Nina.. I assume that's you tagging like crazy. It looks great :)

Did you have second thoughts about only adding the books published during EH's lifetime? I see you did the posthumous ones, too. (I can see us doing it either way - after all, they did have to be on his shelves, or in a drawer, even if only hand- or typewritten..)
Of course, please go ahead! Sorry the 7-hour time difference makes me late in answering...
Hi Nina - "any left"?! Haha :)

We have 3551-4000 left over from nperrin (I've started those), and christiguc has about 700 left in her part... she seems to be occupied with LT Local right now, though. We'll see what happens.

If you'd like to take 3901-4000, that would be great.

Like your tags, by the way.. journalism was a great idea!

Joel
just read your post today. glad you are interested in the group read. I think Greenies are the best.
Welcome,Rullakartiina, to The Green Dragon. We are a lively bunch of readers and frequently post our thoughts, serious and not so serious, on the many threads of conversation under the Green Dragon roof. Sometimes we even party. We sincerely hope you will find time to read thru some of the threads and post your additions. You might want to start with some light hearted ones such as "I am baking cookies". Happy New Year to you.
I'm glad you enjoyed Long Walk to Freedom. It was an amazing book!
