About meThe Springfield Armory National Historic Site is maintained by the National Park Service. The Armory became the epicenter of United States military small arms research, development, and production until it closed in 1968. Founded in 1792 by direction of President George Washington, it designed and manufactured famous weapons in American firearms history in including the Trapdoors, the "Springfield Rifles" of both the Civil War and World War I eras. and the legendary M1 Garand rifle used during World War II and Korea. The Museum houses one of the greatest collections of military firearms in the world.

About my libraryThe Springfield Armory Museum Library is a non-circulating research library concerning firearms' history and technology to match its collections. It is staffed on a part-time basis and welcomes questions regarding titles within its collections.
