About meI am passionate about wildlife (including bugs!) and protecting wildlife habitat. Most people don't realize that conservation is closely linked to our diets, because livestock have an even bigger impact on climate change and other environmental problems than transportation does! (Google the U.N. publication "Livestock's Long Shadow.") And Americans eat more meat by far (per capita) than any other country. (Google Worldwatch Institute's "Happier Meals.") My interest in diet is primarily environmental, but includes humane and health issues.

I've written 11 books since 1993. I was a science teacher with two kids when I wrote my first 9 books about insects, plants, & science experiments for classrooms or home-schoolers. My 2 most popular books on those topics are Creepy Crawlies & the Scientific Method, and Pet Bugs. (Creepy Crawlies is not listed on Library Thing - not sure why. But it's on amazon.com.) My kids are grown now, are both writers, both interested in natural history. My most recent 2 books (Veggie Revolution and Going Green) were both written with my daughter Sadie, a community activist in Greensboro NC. Veggie Revolution (2005) explores the meat industry and vegetarian nutrition, including about 100 vegetarian recipes. In researching Veggie Revolution, Sadie and I toured hog and poultry factory farms, as well as small farms that use humane and sustainable methods. Robert Kennedy Jr. called Veggie Revolution "an important expose of America's meat industry." Going Green (2008) is a consumer guide to food, clothing, cars, and housing that are produced sustainably and safer for consumers. Sadie and I speak at Sierra Club conventions, colleges, etc., about our two books. Our most popular presentation is about America's food industry and making healthy choices for our bodies and the planet. Contact us at sally.kneidel@gmail.com. Our blog at http://veggierevolution.blogspot.com has posts on a wide variety of environmental / health / food topics.

"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round heads in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status-quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. But the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. "
