About meI have loved books ever since my parents first read them to me. Now I read and review as many books as I can, and work at a bookshop, (my favourite place in the world!) I will read most anything, but my favourite genre has always been fantasy.

About my libraryMy favourite author is Darren Shan; I have all of his books. There's far too much fantasy in my library for my own good – Harry Potter, all three series of Deltora Quest, the Keys to the Kingdom, Artemis Fowl, Inheritance Cycle etc. I'm also a fan of Anthony Horowitz, Matthew Reilly, Markus Zusak, Garth Nix and Kazuo Ishiguro.

By the way - very original name you have here! :P
Yes, I know. I haven't read any of her novels in quite a long time, but I'm being honest with myself when it comes to uploading books!
Tch. In the words of many and varied Monty Python and the Holy Grail characters, GET ON WITH IT!
Me, I like Sabriel, but my favourite is probably Abhorsen, for many and varied spoileriffic reasons.
Admittedly, the Old Kingdom series is excellent, and I do like - for example - Harry Potter. However, the problem I find with most fantasy books is that they rely too heavily on the "magical" elements, which sometimes means that there is trouble with the realistic bits, because it's all, "What, you aren't in love with me even though I'm in love with you? Oh well." I always feel a bit short-changed after that sort of discussion.

So which is your favourite Old Kingdom book?
Hey!
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!
Please invite me to the group!?! : )

Hi Samuel - yes I do agree with you about the quality of the writing as far as the style goes, but I found it to be a bit repetitive plot-wise and, as I said, contradictory as far as the theme went, espousing peace but offering quite a lot of fairly graphic violence. And what about that journal from his mother with all the answers in it? How much credibility is there in the book when it remains firmly unexplored! Then when the novel ends expecting you to buy the next one, I felt exploited! When I wa reading it, I did wonder if you'd be reading this book too as I recognised it as the sort you might like - and, as I said, it's got a lot to recommend it, apart from, as I see it, a few fatal flaws!

Yes, I'll see you soon, no doubt for a lot of cut and thrust with all the other texts! Jeremy Clark
This site is fun! I have tried putting in books I like to see what recommendations I would get back but mostly it seems just to be other books by the same authors...
Hello Samuel, it's Rachael (from work, not your sister). I cannot figure out how to join the group? What do i do??? Help??? Also we should not do Angels and Demons
Hello SamuelW,
I am balletgurl. I have just been reading through reviews of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, and I am glad to see you like it. I have read many negative reviews, and then I came to yours. Your second-to-last paragraph summed up how I felt about it perfectly. And if I had to take sides, I too, would go for Pro-Twilight camp.
I would very much appreciate it, if you would check out TrebleClef's review of it, and give me an opinion. I hated their review, and I told them where they were wrong and why.
Yours sincerely,
balletgurl

Your reviews of Eragon and Eldest are great too :) I loved Eragon so so so much but found Eldest a little harder to get through, glad I'm not alone! I'm happy I stumbled upon your profile, hope you don't mind but I've added you to my watch list :) ooo and I've just noticed that you gave Brisingr half a star more than Eldest :D
Hey Samuel,

I've just read your review of 'I am the messenger' by Marcus Zusak, was a really good review, thanks for posting it! I'm dropping you a line because I absolutely loved the book, up until it was revealed who was sending the cards. Then I felt really let down, I was wanting something with more substance. You said in your review that the ending was a twist - I'm thinking, did I miss something?! I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on the ending of this book so that I can give it the five stars that I want to!!!

Thanks!!!

Jane x
