About my libraryA Message From Your Librarian

Hello Sandwell Engineers,

Welcome to LibraryThing and the Sandwell Engineering Library Catalogue. Now that you're here, you can start searching for books by following this link: Sandwell Catalogue

The search box is on the top right, and a basic search will start by looking in all fields of information. You can also narrow your search by using the drop down menu to choose to search only for titles and authors or for tags. I have not extensively used the subject field in my cataloguing, so a search in the subject area probably won't be very helpful. However, because our collection is relatively small, a basic search of all fields will probably serve you well.

The catalogue can be sorted by its various fields - so, if you would like to browse by title, click the word "Title" to see the list of items in alphabetical order by title. The same goes for Author. Clicking "Date" will put the items in chronological order, and clicking "LC Classification" will put them in order of their call numbers. Please do not hesitate to ask me if you have any questions about the Library of Congress call numbers and how to use them. (As of September 26, the items in the library do not have permanent call number labels. Let me know if you are having trouble finding anything.)

Please note: the Review field is used to indicate the shelf location of the item. LibraryThing does not provide a location field, so I had to improvise a bit.

If you take a book out of the library, please let me know, or sign in to LibraryThing as SandwellPMO to leave a note in the Comments field. It is easy to do - just double click the appropriate comments box, and start typing. Please provide your name and the date that you took the book out.

If you would like to see a list of the subject tags that I have applied to the items in the library, you can click on the Tags tab at the top of the screen. This list is a bit like an index. Clicking on one of the tags will take you to a list of all of the items that have been given the same tag. If you have any suggestions for modifying or adding a tag, please feel free to email me, or leave a comment on this page.

You can sign up for an RSS feed to be notified of any new items that are added to the catalogue. A link to set up the feed is located on the lower right portion of the SandwellPMO Profile page (which is where you are right now). Choose the "Recently-added books" option.

If you have any questions, please let me know. My goal is to ensure that you have all of the information that you need as quickly as possible. If you can't find something in the catalogue that you think ought to be there, catch me in the office or send me an email and I will take another look. Also, remember that this system is a work in progress and that I am always happy to take any comments or suggestions that you might have.
