Hi, Shaggy Bag!

Thanks for letting me know about Ki Longfellow's new book! I knew it was due to be out this fall, but hadn't checked to see if it had been released yet. I have heard of Hypatia, but that's about all I know. I'll be getting the book soon!

I've slowly been investigating some of the other books about Mary Magdalene, and have a couple that I haven't read yet. What I have read doesn't begin to compare with The Secret Magdalene -- they just don't put it together right (in my opinion), don't have the power of Ki Longfellow's book.

Perhaps you've noticed, among the comments I've gotten, that I contacted Joe Drape, when I discovered he's on LT too, He's the NY Times racing guy, and gave me the titles of a few books he recommends. I've yet to get to them, but I will eventually ... though not before I make my annual trip up to Saratoga, which I think opens tomorrow, and is an hour and a half drive from where I live.
Oh, yes. I've read all the Chandlers at least three times. I credit him with loosening me up as a writer, when it comes to clowning around, though it took me years to move beyond his influence in order to assert my own sense of humor. I like in particular some of the less heralded Chandlers, like The Little Sister and The High Window.
Hey, Shaggy Bag (as if Texas weren't an interesting enough name):

Turns out I couldn't get through Earthly Powers. It was one of those books where I was entranced by the dense, articulate style, which eventually turned around on me and seemed too dense, as if I were wading through humidity and hoping it would let up--and it never did. Same thing happened to me with Tom Robbins's Jitterbug Perfume. Still, our tastes do seem somewhat similar, enough so that I'll plug my own book: "I Think, Therefore Who Am I?" (Memoir of a Psychedelic Year). It's reviewed quite a few times on amazon, barnes&noble, and a few times here, on LT.

For what it's worth (and I am a professional), I don't see much wrong with your writing; not so you'd need me to edit it. On goodreads: I've only been there a month or so, and I can say that I already have as many friends there as here. I'll see if I can find you. I'm copyedit52 there too.
I like Anthony Burgess, read Man of Nazareth fairly recently, and on your five stars will next tackle Earthly Powers, which fell into my hands at a garage sale. (I also discovered that I'm number three on your affinity list.)
You don't have to be organized to do the book challenge. Just put up a thread, read, and write. We're always interested in new members, titles, and opinions. Thanks for dropping by my thread! I'll have to thanks_Zoe_also for sending you over.
Hello and welcome to LT. I saw your post on the 75 book challenge. Please do join our lively, well read and friendly group. We have more fun discussing the books and getting to know each other than focusing on the numbers.

You would be a welcomed addition.
