Anyhow, yes, yesterday evening I stopped at the library to pick up some things I had on hold. I always check their sale shelves when I go there (surprise surprise) and I'd found five passable paperbacks to adopt (they are five for a dollar). And then I glanced at the special price shelf, almost as an afterthought... and there the Pullman omnibus sat with a $1 tag on it. It was in good shape and I did some quick soul-searching. I had recently been thinking I might want to read the Dark Materials books eventually, and Pullman had been brought to mind again because of the Magician's Book review I just did. Anyhow, I decided that owning and reading these books wasn't going to turn me into an atheist; I hope I am mature enough in my faith and as a person to be able to enjoy the works of authors whose views I disagree with. I could be snarky and say that doesn't seem to be the case with Pullman himself, but I won't :-P. So anyhow, yes, the book came home with me and I'm sure it and the rest of my library are eying one another askance as it sits on my computer desk. I hope they are able to get along.
At the very least, reading Pullman's books will give me a lot more credibility when discussing him and his vicious criticism of Lewis and Narnia. I do find it funny that Pullman denounces Lewis for instilling his personal values into his books, yet Pullman seems to have done the very same thing. It should be a fun review to write :-P
