About my libraryI try to read a bit of everything and to explore outside of what I like to call my "comfort zone" because I believe that literature is no good if people stick to books they know they'll like - great literature aims at changing your idea of the world.

My goal in life is to become something between Jo Rowling, Brian Kinney and Lorelai Gilmore and tour with the Puppini Sisters.

Alas, I wish I had time to re-read the Harry Potter books, but it other books keep getting in the way and all it seems I have time for are re-watching the movies, but I am VERY excited about the new movie later this month.
Agreed.. The Emma Thompson / Keanu Reeves / Kenneth Braughan "Much Ado About Nothing" is very good and worth watching to accompany the book.
Hi Sibylle

The book just arrive a couple of days ago ( Sarah Waters new one) and I have been determined to
finish slogging through The Terror ( terrible book) before reading it.
I will pick it up tomorrow afternoon when I have some hours to spend with it. How can it be anything but good? :)

I was so excited to receive it, I felt like I was jumping up and down inside my skin.
I see that you are now reading a deLint. I love him as well. Have you read Forest of the Heart and Into the Green? And his Newfords?

Take care

kath
Yep, I'm amazed what an easy read W&P is so far. I last tried it when I was 12! (not long ago for you, but very long ago for me...)
I saw your comment about I Capture the Castle but then was off here for 3 days (aaaagh) and now the thread has run away on me! I was so happy to find it and I'm in a book funk right now, so might move it up above some of the worthier tomes. (I'm raeding a bio of Cicero and I can't work out why it's putting me to sleep, but it is. And I'm 30 pages in to W&P... 1290 or so to go!).
Hey there

thank you for the links to the Affinity Video. I have only seen pat of it.. no time.
Two of my sons are home. I did hae some trouble with the first link.. but the others worked and I saw most of part #2

Anyway... take care and thank you again

World Dance Party Today at 3:00 p.m. est. (Set your world clocks)
P.S. Party to Be repeated at 8:00 p.m est for those who can't make the 3:00 time

Sibylle, it's my birthday and I want to celebrate. I've already got an impromptu dance party going on at the Moss-Freestate maison right now. But why stop there? Let's get the world dancing, dancing for peace, for justice, for gentleness, for love and human kindness. So here's the deal. At exactly 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, I'm going to put on my current favorite dance song "Life in Technicolor" from the Vida la Vida cd by Coldplay. If you have a copy of this song, at exactly 3:00 p.m. est (whatever time that is by your clock), hit the play button and dance away. If you don't have this song, turn on your favorite dance song and dance. Even if you can't stand, dance. Dance in your chair, in your bed, if all you can do is wiggle your fingers, dance with them. The song is 2:29 minutes so it won't take much time. At the end, shout YAY for everything that's good in the world. Pass the message on to friends if you like. They don't have to know me; I'd just like to think of millions of people all over the world dancing at the same time for all that is good. It would be the best birthday present ever!!!

Pass the word ON!!!!!
Very entertaining blog :-) I noticed you're a big fan of Sarah Waters. I too am looking forward to her new book - I honestly was a bit let down by Nightwatch but I'm certain Ms Waters will have worked the bugs out of the 40's period for the new one.

Until the book comes out, try checking out www.welovesarahwaters.com. It's a fan fiction site that has a massive Fingersmith sequel called, The Legacy.

Cheers
Hi Sibylle:

I read your comment about Bas Bleu. I've been a member and customer for several years - they are absolutely fabulous. I keep their catalog on my coffee table like a magazine - but I do try to order from them when I can (I was very sad to read your comment about Common Reader).

Best -
Sibyl

P.S. You have a great name :-) There are not very many of us!
Hi Sibylle

You mentioned the Feminine Middlebrow Novel in a thread in the Virago Group, I thought you might be interested in Forever England: Femininity, Literature and Conservatism between the Wars by Alison Light which has a chapter on Ivy Compton-Burnett.

best wishes

Louise
I can't believe that it arrived so quickly, thank you for letting me know that it got there safely. I will certainly watch out for a Paris postcard too, thank you.
Hi Sibylle, I'm just letting you know that I am back from the post office and the Virago booklet is on it's way to you in France right now. I hope you like it. Will you let me know when it arrives?
Sybylle, I have just been to the bookstore and managed to get hold of three of the Virago Modern Classics 30th Birthday booklets we were talking about in the Fabulous Finds thread. I promised to send one to you so the first one is yours if you want to send me your address and I will put the other two up for grabs on the thread.
Great blog, Sibylle.Night! I am looking forward to your comments on the TBR books as you make your way through the pile!
Hello!

Just wanted to tell you how much I've enjoyed reading your blog!

Welcome to LT and especially to the Virago and Persephone groups! Dorothy Canfield Fisher is one of my favorite authors and I hope you enjoy reading the Home Maker. She lived in France during WWI and introduced the teaching methods of Maria Montessori to the US. Her children's book Understood Betsy was my favorite childhood book and had a big influence on me.

I also like Nancy Mitford and notice many of her books in your library. Glad you are here!
Hello, Sibylle!

You have a great collection of books! How did you like The Dud Avocado? It's one of my very favourites.
