About me I'm a career woman, wife and mom, hospice volunteer, and a former Episcopalian who converted to Catholicism in 1993. I stumbled onto this website recently just to check it out; before I knew it 2 hours had gone by and I had a catalog of 40 books! This is better than spending an afternoon at Barnes & Noble, quite addictive.

About my library I've listed mostly books I've read recently, and those treasures that I've read over and over again through the years. I've gotten hooked on several series, but have only listed the first book of each for now. If something is tagged "series" it means I've read and loved ALL of them.

glad you liked itand good to see Brede is getting some business drummed up here!. it is worthy of it i think. in fact it is time that i give it another read.
but i just bought some beautiful new editions of the Hobbit and The Lord of the the Rings, so i may have to reread those first.
so many books...so little time...lol
My wife has read both of the Ann Rice books you mention and liked them. I started listening to the first one and somehow I got bogged down and didn't finish it. At some point I'll give it another try in print.

I read In this House of Brede last year and loved it. The whole notion of what a sacrifice is and how to make one was so clear and truly felt. I was very moved by the book. We watched the movie version with Diana Rigg. It was not nearly as moving as the book as is so often the case. It so much more difficult to capture the working of the interior in film which books can do so well.

I'll check out the trilogy you recommend. Thanks!
Thanks for your comments, I apologize for not responding sooner. I guess I need to check my comments more often. I am always looking for good fictions with spiritual insights, especially Catholic. So if you have any good recommendations, recommend away.

i hope you enjoy it...my comment about not recommending books having been put aside. ;-)
yes, i very much like McFarland's books. in fact, i have given away many copies of them over the years to friends and family. of course, he then seemed to have sort of gone over the deep end with his wife and such. a shame...our shared fallen natures no doubt...
but they are still great books.
other favs...well, i loved Michael O'Brien's books...Father Elijah, Sophia House, excellent. a couple of others i seemed not to have listed since i loaned then out and they are now like lost sheep i need to go in search of. i just bought his Island in the World after reading a great review on some blog. golly, it is a very big book! and an all time favorite..In This House of Brede. Cather's Death Comes for the Archbishop. Cather's most 'Catholic' books but all her stuff is very good.

on the non-fiction end, i was a great fan of Merton for awhile...another fellow that went a bit off the deep end at the end but i was greatly effected by The Seven Story Mountain when i first read it, low those many years ago. but then i gave a copy of it to a friend recently who has drfited away from the Church and she thought he was sexist...i must have missed that and it shows the danger of recommending books to friends sometimes. guess i will just stick to praying for her.
Arroyo's book on Mother Angelica is also very good IMHO. all Hahn's books are good. gosh, there are so many, but those are a couple of my favorites off the top of my head.
but then, they are like little individuals, all these books, each with their own personality. i shouldn't pick favorites and hurt the other's feelings...lol

hmmmm, yes, i do have a rather unique mix in my library. when they are all listed and catagorized..well, it is interesting.
and yes, it is addictive, adding them to your 'library'. as i found out after many hours. but as addictions go, books are not a bad one.
I just want to say that it is so exciting to be considered an 'interesting library' by someone! lol
