I read your review of George Macdonald's Fairy Tales. I agree that they are wonderful. What strikes me about them is the depth of the characters, making them more 'realistic,' for lack of a better term, than most fairy tales, without making them some modern allegory that isn't a fairy tale at all. I rank them higher than C.S. Lewis's in that I think Macdonald masters the craft. I think Lewis's best writing is his essays, and his fiction as more of a method to illustrate his philosophy.
