GroupsAustralian Gardeners, Self-Sufficiency Thingers

About meI am one of several people involved in setting up an inner city suburban Community Garden in Perth. We have some rented allotments grown organically in no-dig gardens, a fruit orchard and some communal garden beds.

I'm also mother of two with a very hands-on husband (in most senses of the term).

With all that, and work, too, I only get time to read books I need to in order to get things done!

About my libraryHere are my books on gardening... if you know me, you will know how to ask to borrow them.

Hi Sue
I was reading a Gardening book review of yours ( http://www.librarything.com/work.php?boo... ) that said you were more interested in non-Eastern seaboard gardening books.
Not sure if you're still on LT but there's a recent Australian book out called A Natural State by Kristen Watts. It's about work that two Perth gardeners (Neil and Jenny Delmage) do. Looks more landscaping than fruit and vege growing, but maybe it'll be of interest?
The Readers Feast catalogue I get said they try to make gardens environmentally sound and with water conservation. The cover didn't look very self-sufficiency though...

There's one book entered on LT here: http://www.librarything.com/work/4506864 and here's the National Library link: http://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/43515...

Note: Have not read the book and aren't associated with it. Just thought it'd be neighbourly to let you know. Cheers, ryn
Hi Sue, Nice to find a fellow West aussie who loves gardening on LT and FB! I'll try and find you there too! I checked out you webpage. I live in DOubleview, it's more quarter acre-y then West Leederville so i don't know how a community garden would go here. I am currently developing my own sustainable produce garden, but I will drop in physically on your garden sometime. I have joined and posted to the Aussie Gardeners group and thta may hopefully revive the conversation abit! Cheers, Cedric.
Hi Sue,
Thanks for the friends invite
Not that many gardeners from WA on LT yet.
Good luck with the community garden up there.
We've managed to get land for one in Balingup too but as Lisa and I were kind of the driving force behind it and we've pulled back from most community stuff to focus on our own block for a while, its on the back burner at the moment.
If I can be of any help for you guys just let me know (pretty flat out planting garlic in between showers at the moment)
