About meI am blessed to love dogs and books and most people who also love dogs and books...

What more does one really need - friends, a dog, a book -

And of course:

- a computer to help write your own book

- a cat, two gerbils, a tank of fish and Great Music

- Beautiful Surroundings (inside or out)

- Order and Simplicity

- Positive Thoughts

(maybe even a place to live and some meaningful work!)

"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."

Groucho Marx

HAPPY READING!

About my libraryI have just started to compile this library. I have traded, given away etc. most of my novels over the years - so I am trying to remember the names of the best novels i've read so I can share them with you!
Like - hm - what was I reading THEN - at that time in my life - at the coast - on that camping trip in the woods - on those particular school steps - in that coffee shop....

I look forward to continuing to add current books and am happy to know i'll not be likely to have to say to someone again - "I read a great book that I know you'd love but have no idea anymore what the name is - sorry..."

My Book Ratings:

5 stars - "Bedside" books

(well-written with something that has stayed with me and been "life-changing" in some way - books that bring me comfort year after year - books I want to wake up next to every day)

(I've given my brother's book, "Sea-kayaking Safety and Rescue" five stars - not because i'm into kayaking, or want it by my bed, but because he wrote it!)

4.5 stars - Better than Excellent, books to be savored

(meaningful/entertaining/well written/these won't go to the used bookstore very fast)

Very highly recommended

4 stars - excellent/entertaining/highly recommended

3.5 stars - Better than average - very entertaining

(can recycle even soon after reading)

3 stars - average

(made waiting for the Dentist not so bad - give these out on the street)

2.5 stars - barely more than mediocre

(why even bother when there are so many great books to read)

2 stars - boring (may as well watch some reruns on TV)

1 star - does anyone spend enough time with a one star worthy book to even rate it??

0 stars - I have not yet finished it, or have not yet decided on a rating.

A man needs only two things a library and a garden.

I would hapilly forego the garden but my library never. I see you have Erickson's book "My voice will go with you", which I also have and he's teaching tales are wonderful. Seeing you have a number of books on NLP I would recommend Bandler's "The Adventures of Anybody", if you have not read it.

You have The Year of Fog. And Michelle Richmond is chatting until June 2nd, so you can still stop by if you like!

Are you still interested in reading the book?
The e-book is in pdf format so you can read it on your Kindle.
Noticed that you liked The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here (as well as on a few other book-related sites). I thought you might like my novel since it's been compared to that novel by a number of reviewers. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

hi there

DO you know why some books get a little green thing on the right side in the libraries, and some get yellow or orange? Let me know, if you will, I am new here. You sound like a very intersting person, do you want to be friends?
thanks
Hi! If you are still in Medford may I introduce you to our dear friend Jean Latham. (I can't visit her so please be my surrogate. She's a lovely literate lady. 528 Franquette St. / 541-772-3909.) You will enjoy each other! Esta Wolfram aka esta1923
Hi Summer. I know what you mean about this website being better than trawling the bookshops. I found your library quite inspiring and my wish list is now a bit longer than it was! There were also quite a few of your books that I have read but didn't put in my library as I have swapped them or given them away.

I only discovered Library Thing yesterday but think I will find myself spending too much time here! Am addicted to anything to do with books. Would love to have a look at some more libraries now and maybe expand my profile but really should be working!
Hi Summer, yes I did work at Helpline both as a volunteer and staff person. I knew a Olive, Olive Street, an Asian woman, when I worker there. Strange I was just thinking of her the other day. I was with Helpline for over 10 years, really enjoyed my time there. I wonder if we have any other shared friends? What sort of work do you do for Providence? I work for the VA as a legal assistant, before that I was a ward clerk at the VA hospital. Take care
Michael
Hi Summer, I was re reading my messages and saw your earlier message about living in Ashland. And you still live there! I miss Ashland. I went to Southern Oregon a number of times, first time from 1966 to 68, then joined the Air Force to avoid Vietnam which didn't work. After the military I returned to Ashland and lived there until the late 80's went I moved to Eugene for a couple of years then to Portland. Have you worked as a volunteer for Helpline in Southern Oregon. I wonder if that crisis telephone counseling service still exisits. I am going to be thinking about Ashland for the rest of the day.
Michael
Hi Summer, thank you for asking me to become a friend. Also thank you for your recommendation of When Nietzche Wept, I actually read that book a number of years ago. I gave away to social worker I worker with at the time, an attmept at a romantic bribe. Unknown to me, she already had a boyfriend. Oh well she did like the book. Welcome to lbrarything I really enjoy this web site. I discovered there a number of Portland and PNW members
Michael
