About my libraryI'm cataloging my books as well as my husband's. We've also got a number of books inherited from various family members and are still weeding out duplicates. And I'm finding lots of things I haven't read yet--usually books my husband picked up and I forgot to read before they got shelved.

Your Library -- this is the default Collection. For me, it means books actually owned by my household.

Borrowed -- borrowed from the library or from friends. If I then actually acquire a book, it moves from here into Your Library.

Removed -- owned at one time but given away or discarded, figured they wouldn't be read again in this household.

Removed-passed along -- gave away to others. I might want to look at them again someday.

Removed-outgrew -- mostly books from childhood which I won't be reading again. But I liked them at the time.

Removed-not liked -- why did I acquire these and then waste time reading them?

Wishlist -- want to read, but don't have it yet.

To read -- items we've already got that I know I want to read. Maybe by tagging them I'll remember they're here.

Inherited -- between our families, there are many books come to roost in our house from deceased relatives.

Lost -- I know very well I wouldn't discard these, but darned if I can locate them now.

Currently reading -- accurate if I keep it up to date.

Phantom -- saw some other users talking about this idea, a way to indicate "parts" and omnibus books that I don't actually own, but which keep coming up in recommendations because we don't yet have a "part-of" association between works. With any luck, this collection will someday become redundant.

Not interested in -- These are books from My Library and others that I'm not interested in, or don't want influencing my recommendations. So they are being removed from these other collections so I can break them out on "use for recommendations" and "use for connections".

I've been here awhile but I updated it a bit today. I really should start cataloging what's on the shelves! There's lots to enter in here yet.
Yes, it's just a rough sketch, but I've gotten fond of it. I just scanned it in and saved it as a jpeg.
I really like the picture on your profile - it's a great design. Did you design it yourself?
No problem, not rude at all & feel free to ignore if you prefer. I am in the Ravelry LibraryThing group & was sending friend invites to other members who had a number of shared books.
Jacqui
hey, you work with my mum at 3M, thought i'd say hi.
I have to ask, are you the Leah Cutter who attended Anthony Junior High in Minneapolis?

Yes I am! I take it we might have known each other way back when?

And I'm glad you like my books. I also have an LJ -- that's where you'll find most of the blather about the most recent novel (http://lrcutter.livejournal.com/)
