About meThere's something about finding myself in literature that makes me shudder.
I find myself a lot.
Over and over.
My friends think I'm nuts over books.
I pawn off my old ones on my unsuspecting boyfriend.
He opens his briefcase each day with a cry of frustration.
"Another!?" he continually asks.
I am an English/Anthropology major.
And my ego is much too big for my body.
I'm twenty-one; my darling is thirty-six.
I'm not interested in science fiction, but I'm dazzled by philosophy.
My head is always in the clouds.
Sometimes I'm very sweet.
But most of the time I'm just proud.
I like myself a lot. Too much sometimes.
But it comes from the knowledge that I have a personal library waiting for me--and no one else I'm familiar with knows what they are missing.

I like to pretend I'm a hippie. I have a tattoo on my wrist of a peace sign and a heart. My parents flipped when they heard about it. I relish that yelling fit and play it in my mind over and over. I've always been a good kid to them. Except for the times when I run them over with my cynicism.

They hate that.

My father is a doctor and my mother is too. They are very rich.
But I am not.
I tell them I hate science, but I read it in secret.
Don't tell them.

My professors always love me because I'm a challenge. And because I won't put up with nonsense. But they also love me because sometimes I come into class hungover, or I place practical jokes on their desks.

I'm always smiling because I don't know how else to react.

Men love me, but boys do not.
I am pretty as a picture, and very hard to tame.
Some people become mystified because I talk too much.
Am I talking to much?
(I only asked because I really don't care.)

I plan on being incredibly successful one day.
Others say I will be, too.
But they only say it because I've said it first.

But it isn't money I'm after.
I just want the ability to continue being proud.

I feel as if everyone and no one understands what I am thinking.
It drives me mad every day.
But by night I am satisfied with this thought.

I love the colors deep red and orange.
I am a Capricorn.
I have blonde hair.
I am wildly sexual.
I believe in Fate.
I do not rely on it.
Books are my life.

And, in the end, I am interested by everything. Even the things I hate interest me. I can't get enough of everything.

I can't get enough.

It is tiring to live each day.

About my libraryI've learned how to accept all books (except for Danielle Steele and Nicolas Sparks: sorry that's just not real writing)
I veer towards the classics or towards history and biography. I love people. Always have.
They're very strange and complex; easy to muddle.

POPPIES
by Carl Sandburg

SHE loves blood-red poppies for a garden to walk in.
In a loose white gown she walks
and a new child tugs at cords in her body.
Her head to the west at evening when the dew is creeping,
A shudder of gladness runs in her bones and torsal fiber:
She loves blood-red poppies for a garden to walk in.
Noticed that you liked The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here (as well as on a few other book-related sites). I thought you might like my novel since it's been compared to that novel by a number of reviewers. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

SweetBriar, My daugher (one of three)is 20 and I am happy to say, sounds much like you in that she is proud of all that she is,likes peace signs, tattoos and shocking her parents. She is a wonderful person of whom I am very proud and I liked that I saw her in your words. The trick is to keep that sense of pride and the ability to enjoy all that you are when the world will try very hard to pull you down and pull you apart. Always remember that even when you are 47 (like me) inside you still feel 19, only the responsibilities and the envelope have changed. So it's important to be true to what you recognize about yourself now. Nice to know you, Mary Beth
Hi! My librarything catalog is the same as yours. I'm only tracking books I've read. We have 57 in common and we share favorite authors. Hope you don't mind if I list you as one of my Interesting Libraries.
Just so everyone knows, the only books I add to this library on librarything are the ones that I have already read. My real library stretches farther than the eye can see (lol). But really, this is just to keep track of the books I've already read. If you have any suggestions on books to read or any comments, please feel free to contact me!
