About meI'm just one big BOOKWORM. Seriously, I'm so bad that I'd rather curl up with a good book than go to a party, to my friends' chagrin. Other things I like include running, fencing, video games, performing (I'm in an improv troupe), and sleeping (hehe). And animals, of course. I aspire to be a veterinarian so I can work with them ALL the time. Sadly, I'm not that academically smart so I'll need to work hard!

About my libraryThere is no particular genre of books I like the most since they are each awesome in their own way. However, I have recently been reading a lot of Sci-Fi and Fantasy. After reading a lot of books, plots tend to run together if they're too similar and I lose interest in the book. It's why I choose a book based on its originality (it could be either what is told or how it's told) and characters. No flat characters for me! Unless the plot is just that amazing, anyway. Books that surprise me or just manage to charm me with its characters are usually books that end up being my favorites.

Dear Tavaresden:

Thank you so much for the review! I really appreciate it, and I'm very happy you enjoyed the book!

Best wishes--Adam Johnson
Oh well you know I looked up at the members in young reads and I was wondering where you have been....But its always good to study
Hey where have you been?
Ah, I'll add The Thief, too. I'll certainly check back with you after I read Open Minds--love the premise. If you're interested, it's offered in a giveaway contest (comment through Saturday) at www.thewriterslens.com (see Monday's post). I forgot to mention Tim Powers as one of my favorites for blending fact & fiction...his book "Declare" inspired Charles Stross' Laundry Files novels. Well, guess I'd better get something done, although I may just go read. Sounds like more fun!
Congratulations! You won a copy of The Heart of Hannen. Will you be reading this on Nook or Kindle?

Best regards,

Fawn Bonning
Hi -- I'll have to add those to my "to-read" list! I also like quirky characters, like Harry Dresden in Jim Butcher's series. I've been reading a lot of escapism lately and sci fi/fantasy is great for that. I especially like it when an author skillfully weaves in history and/or science (e.g. Neil Stephensen, Kim Stanley-Robinson, Diana Gabaldon). And I love dystopian novels. Yep, including The Hunger Games & Divergent--just bought Open Minds. I'm a huge fan of Margaret Atwood--she tells a great story but gets some heavy messages across, too. I also read offbeat, humorous mysteries (e.g. Cindy Sample, Janet Evanovich, Angie Fox). I used to read horror and mainstream mysteries, but not so much lately.
Hi, Tavaresden--so good to meet you! I saw you're a bookworm and I am, too. I just got Neal Stephensen's Reamde from the library and look forward to reading it. I'm also reading one of Angie Fox's Demonslayer books and a book called Greencastle by an Egyptologist I heard speak a couple of years ago at a sci-fi convention (sadly, it's not about Egypt). What's the best book you've read lately?
I am in the process of getting those out. Sorry for the delay.

JR
