About meFor fiction I mostly read science fiction and fantasy, but branch out into mysteries and traditional literature. For non-fiction I enjoy just about everything, from poetry to biographies to economics to crafts to culture, and much more. Like many people, I've found that I am having less time to read, but I'm still plugging along.
Some of my interests: Christianity, photography, cooking, writing, parenting, education, psychology, abortion, sexual politics, frugality, do-it-yourself
"As a courtesy, I'm going to lecture you on what a fool you are."
About my libraryIn my library account, I'm listing both the books my family owns, along with those I borrowed and read since July 2007.
I thought quite a bit about how I'm going to define my own ratings, and came up with this tentative system.
Five stars = I'd enthusiastically and actively recommend it to anyone of the appropriate audience.
Four stars = I enjoyed it, and will recommend it if asked.
Three stars = It's on the mediocre side and I will only recommend it if really necessary (there's no others better, for example).
Two stars = I was disappointed with the book, and would discourage people from reading it.
One star = I really disliked the book, and in some cases would rather throw it away than expose anyone else to reading it.
You're not likely to find too many 1 and 2 star ratings in my library, because I generally don't rate a book unless I've read the majority of it. And I'm not one to finish a book I'm finding horrible. For every book I add to my library as read, there's another one I didn't add because I didn't finish it.
