About meThad McAfee is a retired engineer and now resides with his wife and dog Sissy the Spaniel near Lake Tahoe, Nevada. He is a Civil War buff and a voracious reader of both fiction and non-fiction. Born and raised in the Midwest, his stories reflect growing up in small town Americana.
About my libraryI like the humor of Wambaugh that threads through his novels. In contrast, I am a big fan of the gripping irony and poignant descriptions found in the works of Solzhenitsyn. Novels that attract me have a believable and edgy theme with real people as the principle characters. I’m not into fantasy and the surreal. I have read the works of Bruce Catton and Shelby Foote in an effort to better understand the American Civil War. And yes, our greatest president is Abraham Lincoln.

They were ravished with its loveliness; a warm, soft-voiced spring-green landscape dotted with sassafras and scarlet-colored snakewood, smelling of wild strawberries and hart's tongue.
- - - Marshall Fishwick, "Virginia: A New Look at the Old Dominion," 1959
The human language is like a cracked kettle on which we beat out a tune for a dancing bear, when we hope with our music to move the stars.
