Hello again Ms B (if I'm allowed to shorten your name)
Thanks for your illuminating reply, and your kind comments.
I'm really glad that you like Ogden Nash,he's great isn't he. I love 'The Wapiti'"There goes the Wapiti, Hippety- hoppity!"
and 'I Will Arise and Go Now',which begins "In far Tibet,There live a Lama,He got no poppa,Got no Mamma.
Now I haven't come across Billy Collins, but I will now do my best to find some examples of his works,so thanks for that information.
G.K.Chesterton,is in fact another of my favorites, with his poem "The Donkey",being a particular favorite of mine."When fishes flew and forests walked, and figs grew upon thorn,Some moment when the moon was blood,Then surely I was born."
Another which I failed to mention is Stevie Smith, wonderful stuff !
Regarding the storing of books, well, that is a problem indeed. I have put a certain amount on my Profile page about that. ie having an extension built some years ago to hold all of the collection, but it has now outgrown that plan altogether I fear.So I double stack in certain places as well. One thing I am adamant about and that is that everything must be shelved. And of course, every so often I have a ruthless throw out.
We will have to discuss poetry ect in more detail (if you would like to,that is) in another note, but for now,all the best and hope to hear from you soon.
It's I who owe you the apology, and I am very sorry. I was in a hurry and got careless. I'll try not to do it again.
Hello,
and many thanks for the compliments about my library .It has taken many (many) years to get to the state that it is now in.The biggest problem is storage, which is not easy,I kid you not.
You ask about the poetry section, well I am perhaps rather a philistine here, but I must try and answer your question as honestly as I can. I am not a lover of the 'wishy-washy' school. Let me list my all-time favorite poets for you - Chaucer,Cowper,Tennyson,Kipling,Brooke and Scott. As to the (fairly) moderns,Betjeman,Nash and Elliot.I love comic poetry too. I hope I haven't disappointed you with my selection there. One of the most useful books and one that I use all the time is "The Columbia Granger's Index to Poetry" This is an index of the first and last lines of all the poems that you are likely to come across, but are unable to remember the title. Invaluable.
If you want to know what collections I like and/or think are the best,do let me know.
Best wishes.
