About meThe University of Worcester Research Collections have been developed to support current specialisms in research and curriculum studies within the University.

They include an exceptional range of historical children’s literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as a significant local business archive and a collection of 18th century printed books.

About my libraryThe collections are grouped under eight broad themes:

Basketball Heritage: A significant collection focusing on the History of the sport in the UK.

Childhood:The changing experience of childhood since the 19th century.

Children’s literature:Children’s literature since 1800, including the internationally renowned Brown Collection of works by GA Henty

Children’s theatre:Professional theatre for young audiences in the UK and abroad.

Education:History of education in textbooks and posters.

Design:Novelty books, literary postcards and penguin book covers.

History::Including the Kay’s archive and the Worcestershire Archaeological Society.

Literature:Works by authors with links to Worcestershire; and a small collection of 19th and early 20th-century items in German.

The Children's Literature collections have a strong emphasis on adventure stories, predominantly featuring child protagonists in a range of historical or colonial settings. A fine collection of contemporary multicultural children’s literature allows the researcher to explore the flip-side of the historical adventure books.

The Childhood collections focus on childhood, particularly the physical representation of children at play and personal writing about childhood experience.

The Research Collections also include:

~ the library of the Worcestershire Archaeological Society
~ the archive of Kays & Co Ltd,the Worcester based mail order company,1890-2007.
~ a large Basketball Heritage archive
~ a collection of published works by local authors;
~ a large number of antiquarian publications, focusing mainly on historical subjects;
~ and a small number of 19th and early 20th-century items in German.
