Hmm that's actually a tough question! Well, I'd say that story is probably the most important thing to me. In other words I'm not as interested in cool ideas or just really good writing for its own sake, if I am not engaged by the primary story/people - but that's true for my reading in general. I guess similarly I don't read sci fi for the futuristic gadgety stuff but for interesting and believable alternate realities that are still relatable because of some core humanness. For reference, an allegedly hard SF writer that I like is Peter Watts. And I love it when people are on spaceships :P
Hey I just noticed your favorite author, whom I saw listed in the Hard SF thread in the LT Sci Fi group. I'll have to check him out too. Suggestions on where to start?
Hey Zeno,
Thanks for checking that out! I definitely will give the book a try, although my books to do list has gotten rather long recently (always a nice thing). I am enjoying the new Books forum over at SGU. I don't know if I mentioned, but I read a book of a similar ilk a long time ago, about Nancy of Sid & Nancy as recounted by her mother. It was a quick and entertaining read.
Well, in that case I will add it to my to do list until you warn me otherwise :)
Zeno, did you like this book (The True Story of Bonnie and Clyde as Told By Bonnie's Mother and Clyde's Sister)? sounds interesting.
