Throughout this semester I have read a lot of different kinds of books. Growing up I have always enjoyed reading books and also reading books to others. Reading books is a way to escape the world and jump in to a whole new one. During this semester, I read many picture books, poetry books and many chapter books. I had many different books that would appeal to African American students and a lot that can appeal to animal lovers. Reading these books made me realize how to better understand my students and what they would want to read. The students that I would most likely read to would be those children that are in kindergarten through third grade. I would often read to my little cousins and it was very interesting to get feedback from them. They found many of the books I read to them to be very funny. For a few books I had my cousins read them to me, which they seemed to enjoy. Doing these readings I also discovered my new favorite author:Amy Krouse Rosenthal. I enjoyed her books because within them were a lot of life lessons and a lot of humor. My favorite book of hers that I read was Plant a Kiss. These readings taught me how there are a lot of ways to teach with reading involved. I learned about how most books not only tell a story but teach life lessons. Overall doing these readings help me to build a better understand of the many different kinds of books that are out there.
