About meSigned up with the hope to find recommendations on well written fantasy books. I read other genres as well, but fantasy is what I've grown up with and I always find my way back.

I've somewhat tired of a) reading the same theme over and over and b) really badly written books which unfortunately are not uncommon in fantasy (and probably other genres as well).

About my librarySo far, only contains books purchased via the internet over the last couple of years (read: books which were relatively easy to import). So this is in no way a complete list as I love to shop in real bookshops and being able to flip through the pages before deciding.

Ordered and received a CueCat, which will hopefully make adding the rest of my books a bit easier. Now I just need to find the time to scan the remaining books..

Nice review of "Pawn of Prophecy". Lots of people like it, but I just can't get past about page 15 or so. I almost started it back up, but came here looking for some stunning reviews to get me motivated. Glad to see I'm not alone. I think I'll try another author.
My impression of A Feast for Crows (about 600 pages in) is that it's not as compelling as the first three. I do miss some of the main characters as well, but my main annoyance is that nothing significant has really happened. I'm not seeing how a lot of these secondary plot lines are actually going to tie into the larger picture and make a difference.

The latest I've heard on the release of A Dance with Dragons is Spring '09. Just keeps getting pushed back.

Always nice to find other fans of Martin. I still have A Feast for Crows left to read in ASOIF. I'm about half-way through it now. How did you like it?

Haha! It sounds like you and I have alot in common, Adara. I, like yourself, really love the fantasy genre, but am getting a little frustrated by recurring plot lines...especially when they are written poorly! I'm on a mad hunt for really unique fantasy, so if you have any recommendations, I'd love to hear them!

Also like you, I have that horrible compulsion that won't let me stop reading something once I've begun - that's actually the very reason I avoid Terry Brooks! I'm not a big fan of his, either, so I've avoided the Shannara series(es) like the plague.

As of yet, I've actaully read nothing of Joe Abercrombie's. You enjoyed his books, then? Hmmmm. Perhaps I will have to hunt them down, though I am on a bit of a book-buying hiatus. (My book collection has outgrown my living space about twice over, and I have sub-concious fears of finally breaking through the floor and meeting my downstairs neighbors in a very unpleasant fashion)!

And I am always impatient for the next Martin book!
Thanks, adara, for adding me to your interesting libraries list, and welcome, a little belatedly, to librarything! I love it here, and I always enjoy to talk literature, especially fantasy!
Thanks for adding me. I see we have quite bit of overlap. There's some stuff in your library I still want to read too. If you're still looking for recommendations, visit us at fantasybookspot.com. It's where a lot of my reviews are hosted. Plenty of like-minded people there.
