Hi

Noting that we share Sam Hyde Harris; a Retrospective, I took a quick look at your library.
Seeing that you have a good number of books on American art I thought you might be able to direct me to some worthwhile publications.

Having been brought up on European art I have only recently begun to discover the wealth of beautiful work produced in the States/Canada besides Homer and Hopper. I am bowled over by the paintings of the Group of Seven and Tom Thomson, as well as the likes of Sam Hyde Harris and American Impressionists.

But I am still fairly ignorant, and so I would like to learn more. Can you suggest any books with good colour reproductions, or specific artists worth pursuing?

If you have the time, if you take a look at the art books in my library you will see how far I have progressed in my search.

Many thanks for your time

Excellent list. See you have many unique early California painting books.
I see you have several books by and about Maynard Dixon. My sister is interested in his work and I wonder if you have any recommendations of which book(s) might be the best for me to get her for her birthday. She would probably be more interested in seeing reproductions of his work than in reading art criticism, although I'm sure she'd be happy with some background info to go along with the pictures. Thanks for any help you can give me -- she's the artist in the family, not me!
It was a gift from a friend, a number of whose pieces were included in the exhibition.
I notice that you share "The American Indian Parfleche" by Gaylord Torrence. Being from Des Moines, that exhibit holds very fond memories in my youth. The book ended up beautifully done.
