About meI'm a novelist, writing about Europe in the 1930's and 40s,with European lead and minor characters. These are essen-tially historical spy novels, in the period when war is nowinevitable, sophisticated, authentic, erotic and suspenseful. They include NIGHT SOLDIERS, DARK STAR, THE POLISH OFFICER, THE WORLD AT NIGHT, RED GOLD, KINGDOM OF SHADOWS, BLOOD OF VICTORY, DARK VOYAGE, THE FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT, and THE SPIES OF WARSAW. They've been translated into 17 languages, available from Random House in Trade Paperback, also available in audio and as downloads.

About my libraryAgain, 30s and 40s--so Eric Ambler and Graham Greene. All of Orwell, much Evelyn Waugh, Isaac Bashevis Singer, selected Hemingway, George McDonald Fraser's wonderful Flashman series, Isaac Babel, Bulgakov, Gregor von Rezzori, absolutely all of the British comic novelist Anthony Powell. And a really good cookbook.

I have enjoyed all of your books that I have read: the noir atmosphere, the compelling characters, the tight dialog. Thanks so much.
Mr. Furst,
I just wanted to say that I have just discovered you novels this year and have read almost all of them and Dark Star twice. I was interested to know if you could recommend any books in english about the Munich crisis? or the diplomacy between the USSR and Nazi Germany throgh the Polish invasion of 1939? Please keep up the good work. I look forward to opening up Dark Voyage which I just bought.

Alan, really enjoyed your Author Chat, and took an unreasonable amount of pride in the fact that your chat had a near-record number of posts from members.

I re-discovered a book on my shelf after your chat, now wish I'd been able to ask you about it. "Cry Spy!", very ably edited by Burke Wilkinson. It's been a great companion as I read through THE WORLD AT NIGHT. I see that you've also edited an anthology, this one of espionage in literature. Will have to pick that up, eventually, as well.

Of course you're busy, but will put in a plug for you properly adding to LT some of those books you mention above in "About my library". Would be another fun resource (cough), for me, at least. But perhaps your time would be more enjoyably spent with the football & basketball fantasy leagues you mention. I can appreciate that!
