About meHaunted by a charm-school class in junior high school and the inability to do my own hair or apply makeup, I have been collecting classic advice books for almost twenty years in a quest to sort it all out. I have a keen interest in historical materials and pop culture, not to mention a love of crawling around dirty used bookstores to find the perfect book to add to my collection. I live in an old house in Takoma Park, Maryland, with 1 cool musician, 2 terrier mutts, a pink fridge and an amazing collection of ice crushers. About my libraryOh, only a mere 1,000 or so classic advice books spanning from 1822 to 1978 (I am slooowly adding them here). Topics include, dating, love, living together, marriage, health, beauty, puberty, sex, etiquette, housekeeping, home economics, and home repairs. On the website I answer questions to modern-day problems using the old advice books. I also have a new book of my own, Miss Abigail's Guide to Dating, Mating, and Marriage: Classic Advice for Contemporary Dilemmas! I love your fascination with the old how-to books for better living. I only have one shelf devoted to that topic. I'll have to browse your shelves sometime.
Just thought I'd let you know I've scanned and uploaded the cover of Home Life Made Beautiful, and you are welcome to pick it up. For some people, like me, the LT feature of getting to view all their lovely bindings in one swoop is a real joy.
See you around the place!
