About meI'm probably not any different than most of the others on this website. I have a weakness for books. Seem to compulsivly buy them. I'm throughly in love with the feel and smell of a book. I like the act of reading, and love to learn. I just need a bigger house to put MORE books.
Other than books, i like history, nature, religion, the furtrade era--you know the kinda stuff my books are about.

About my libraryWhat about it???....hmm.....been collecting books for several years....i've never been a collector of expensive books or valuable books, or books that might appreciate rather than depreciate, i've always been drawn to the material in them rather than the covers and values. All of the books on this list i have...if i sell it, i would take it off my catalog. Don't quite understand why some people have libraries of books they don't have? A great many i've read, of the ones i haven't..most of the rest i've gotten all i needed out of a good skimmin'

Hi there, really interesting library, if we don't share it, it seems to be on my amazon wish list...Damn I should really buy stock in amazon, atleast then I'd make some money off myself :-)
I completely agree with you. Ada is my favority book of all time, and it is so wonderful to hear someone else say it. You've articulated so well why, also. I was up reading "Speak, Memory" last night, and as N. talks about the staircase and the panelled dining room of his house in Vyra, I can smell that house of Van and Ada. Delicious. N. has a way of making you feel so alive.
I totally agree with your review of [Ada]! So good! So rich! You articulate its charm very well.
Thanks - this tangled author info is very infuriating. I am finding great amusement though, seeing where my library intersects others. I have a huge amount of overlap with maybe half a dozen people. Others where I share only 1-2 volumes really intrigue me - I can't figure out why very different interests intersect in just one or two books. I have quite a bit of western history and Civil War stuff, so you probably haven't hear the last from me. (I hope that's OK.)
re Catton and the "Army of the Pacific"...You are most welcome. I have found a few of those howlers in my own entries. Our former secretary at work used to call that sort of thing a "brain fart".

I am a new user, just went over the 200 mark so had to pay up for a lifetime membership, but I made mine private because I panicked when I saw my username proliferating all across cyberspace. I have been invisible there until now, so I am not sure how I feel about that. I will probably go public eventually, because being private makes my reviews invisible. Also I have encountered the disappointment of not being able to check out the catalog of someone high on my shared list.

I see you joined recently too. How on earth did you get 700 books entered in 2 weeks??? I find that I have fewer typos if I add new books by the ISBN, but then I have to clean up whatever comes across from Amazon.

We share only 5 titles right now, but I can see from your catalog that the number will increase. I too am fond of western history. Also, I know what you mean about the feel and smell of books. For the early accounts I prefer to find very early editions whenever possible. That "old book" smell makes me feel like I am in their era somehow. We have lots of used bookstores in Portland (including Powell's, the best of all), and I travel a lot for work, so have plenty of opportunities. Happy reading!
