Oh, I watched a new anime over the weekend: "Loveless". I'm actually digging it. I have the first volume of the manga, will have to scrounge up some more. AND I just got my order from Akadot. ^_^ Do you think it will count as part of my TBR stack since I ordered them before the new year? Heck, they might have arrived and I just didn't get the box until I came into work today. : P Yeah, I'm counting them. I can't wait two months to read volume 2 of "Only Serious About You" on a technicality (Doing the "Double Dare Challenge" I mentioned on my blog).
Didn't someone say that nowhere is man (or woman) so weak-willed as in a bookstore? (In this case, online bookstores count, too.) I have no self control, either. And I just realized that a manga I bought last night is in my newest Akadot order. D'oh! : P Guess I'll have to take it back.
What is your favorite non-manga M/M romance? I love Tere Michaels' "Faith and Fidelity". I thought it was very well-written with really good character development and a believable romance. ^_^ I'm also a big fan of "False Colors" and "Captain's Surrender", both Age of Sail m/m historicals by Alex Beecroft.
Yay! You got the rest of "Tyrant", too! Have you read Ayano Yamane's "Finder" series? It's excellent (although pretty graphic at times). I love it when the uke isn't a wimp who needs rescuing by the seme. I like equal relationships, and I think Takaba is pretty equal to Asami, even if Asami is a big bad yakuza guy. ^_^ I'm just a sucker for a good romance, really. If you know some good ones I don't have listed here, let me know!
I ordered Black Sun a few days ago, as well as the new Tyrant and new Private Teacher. And a few other things. Yes, Akadot is the bottomless pit of excellently priced yaoi that my money falls into on a regular (read: bi-weekly) basis. I'm going to be off from both jobs on New Year's, so I think that will be my "get the dang house in order so I can take pictures" day. : P
Well, I don't think it's only interesting to us. Why else would they have a website called BookPorn? LOL I'm sorry I'm a bad influence. : P I hope I'm a bad one in the best way. ^_^
I also wanted to recommend "Romantic Illusions". It's got good art and a great plot. ^_^ You can't go wrong at $4. http://www.akadot.com/romantic-illusions-yaoi-gn-p-27094.html
Hey, you planning on posting more bookshelf photos on your blog? Once I have my books all organized I'll be posting photos on mine. :)
Psst! Volume 5 of "The Tyrant Falls in Love" and volume 2 of "Private Teacher!" are out now on Akadot! I'm waiting impatiently for the next installment of "Only Serious About You".
So glad you picked up "Tyrant", too. I've become a huge fan of Hinako Takanaga -- I got her "Little Butterfly" omnibus from Akadot for $9.
So you like "Private Teacher!", huh? Yeah, I loved it. ^_^ Volume 2 of that and "Only Serious About You" were supposed to be out Wednesday, but DMP's running behind schedule (surprise surprise). I sent an email to Akadot Retail and they said it should be out by the end of the month (www.akadot.com, carries the June' imprint of DMP for amazing prices - many manga are just $4 and you get free shipping with orders over $40!).
LOL! Quit reading my mind! Volume 2 of "Private Teacher" comes out tomorrow on Akadot. ^_^ I'm so ordering it and vol 2 of "Only Serious About You" and "Passionate Theory".
Ha ha! Yep, I know what you mean. But since you do like a bit o' BL, I have to recommend "Private Teacher" and "Only Serious About You". Very good books, I thought. Just keep them in mind for when your credit card decides to misbehave. ^_^
Hey, just wondering if you've seen the new reissue of "Until the Full Moon" by Sanami Matoh? Interesting change to her artwork from FAKE -- at least, the cover art is new. :)
You know, I was just checking out some of Bart Ehrman's books yesterday. I have "Jesus, Interrupted". What do you think of his other work?
I've ordered more books from Amazon -- darn there being no good used stores here! I've just finished up the "Ghost" omnibuses (omnibusi? omnibi?) from Dark Horse Comics. I picked up a highly recommend cookbook, "Vegan with a Vengeance", and plan on experimenting with that this weekend. I love food... ^_^ I reviewed "Flirt" (both here and on Amazon). Hope you're doing well! Oh, and I ordered another copy of "Life as a Prayer". It will be my loan copy. : D
Have you gotten "Flirt" yet? What did you think? I saw that the next book is supposed to be out early June... title is "Bullet". *crosses fingers that it's a good one*
What's next on your list of books? Other than Shadow Blade by Seressia Glass, my next book is Flirt (the new Anita Blake book). After that, the new werecats book, "Shift", by Rachel Vincent. I do like that series a lot. So much more interesting than most of the paranormal genre now. Oh, and recommended read: "The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop" by Lewis Buzbee. I read it on Sunday while I was doing laundry. : )
Have you seen the Banned Books bracelets on Amazon? The ALA created them. I think they're nifty. : P
I admit, I spend a lot more. Especially when I drive back to visit my friends every other weekend now. I can easily spend $200 in one weekend, just on books. Sometimes more. : )
I looked it up -- lowest price hc is approx. $182. Then again, there are a lot of sellers who price gouge. I'd look on eBay, too. Eventually you'll get a copy in an acceptable price range. That's how I got my copy of "Labyrinth". Saved me $40. : )
Oh, wow. That *is* a lot of money for one book. Other than my big, beautiful, slip-cased 1st edition hardcover art book of Robert Mapplethorpe's work that I paid $125 for, my most expensive book is a paperback copy of "Labyrinth", based on the Jim Henson film. I got it for $35 on eBay, and it's gorgeous and in perfect shape; usually they start in the $70-range on Amazon for even a battered copy. I think the old green hardcover of "The Collected Poems of Sara Teasdale" that I bought for $4 at an antique shop over Christmas is going for 40-something bucks. I've been going wacko on Amazon the last couple of days -- I need to knock it off. I already have too many books I haven't read yet. My reading time has stalled for the moment -- too much to do, too little time. : )
425 books listed so far... I found a new yaoi, "U Don't Know Me" by Rakun. Waiting for it to get here. I'm honestly glad that we have Amazon, but at the same time, I spend so much more on shipping than I do on the books themselves. It's still a great deal (most of the time), but I have a kneejerk "ick" reaction when I see that my bill is about $30, and $24 of that is shipping. : P Did you get any new books?
Hello! Good morning! etc. : D
Hmm...Maybe so. I'm like you -- I slash all sorts of things, be it movies, books, or tv. I had a field day with the new Star Trek film! Yeah, the chemistry was totally there. Forget Uhura. ; P I'm glad you found some new goodies in my library. I've read more than I've kept -- I only kept the best and most romantic ones. If you want, let me know what titles you're interested in and I can give you a more specific recommendation. Some of them are a "definitely YES" and others are a "pretty good". : D I'm glad to see that our literary tastes seem to be very much in common.
No, I haven't read that one. Not really my cup of tea. I read either "magical girl" (Sailor Moon, Utena, and - to some extent - Miyu) or yaoi.
Thanks! So do you. : D
Do you have a wishlist? We have 43 books in common so far!
I've added a bunch more books on. Of course, it's still not complete. : ) Yeah, that would be a good tattoo for you. : D
I've read "Dark Angel" (many moons ago), but I didn't know it was a trilogy. I found all three at a Half Price Books for $2.98 each a few weeks ago. They're on the "to read" pile. Nope, haven't read Kelly Armstrong. Too many books, not enough time!
No, I only have the first Sookie book. I haven't read it yet, but so many people were saying how good it is, I broke down and bought it. I think the names are really dorky, though. : P I've only read LKH's Anita Blake series -- not really into the faerie series. A friend had the first 2 or 3 books waaaay back when, before vampire/paranormal romances were "hot". So I was reading Anita back in the late '90's. I'm going to keep working on my library and hopefully will get a better listing of what I have soon. : )
Ha! Lingering...yeah, I do that, too. Mostly with Francesca Lia Block's books. Hers are so good.
We have a bunch of books in common, too. Have you read "The Persian Boy" by Mary Renault? I'm rereading it right now. It's such a good one.
Hi! I see you're the one other person who has "Life as a Prayer" by Michelle Barnes McClendon. Did you like it? I ordered it from Amazon -- still waiting on it.
I noticed we both have the same graphic novel: The Complete Bite Club. I stopped by to see what other books you had listed and we read a lot of the same things. Just wanted to say hello and hope you are doing well. You have such an amazing list up. I'm not very far in the reading on Bite Club yet, but I am really taken with the characters.
